Afternoon all!

I have a powerline setup in the house (RJ45 only) for desktop machines and am looking to add a couple of wifi boosters for the hard to reach places. There seems to be a lot of cheap extenders that plug in but are they just repeaters?

example:

Can anyone recommend something simple to help. The powerline units are cheap D-Link but work very well...just looking for a plug in powerline extender.

Thanks in advance

Lawrence

The item linked is just a wireless extender.

For Powerline based extenders look in the Powerline section. Something like the TP-Link TL-WPA281 would probably suit, but I haven't personally tried one.

Although it isn't as tidy I prefer more tradition access points (or wireless routers configured as APs). You can then connect them using standard Powerline adapters (or preferably a cable).

Hi Brem, thanks for the response.

I have tried using a 2nd router with the powerline and have created 1/2 a useable network, 1/2 a broken one and most of the wireless devices get confused so I was trying to simplify.

I will give something like the WPA281 a go and report back

thanks!

Is there a way of getting an area in the home that would get a decent signal to everywhere?

The reason for saying is, I ran this setup for a while and it was perfect.
I've only changed as I purchased more powerlines for the devices that
really didnt need wifi, ie Raspbmc pi and a few smart tv's

Router 1, connected to master socket with all fancy things turned off inc Wifi.

Router then connected to a powerline beside it.

Placed the second powerline in a good spot in the centre of the home

Connected second router to the second power line.
