Hi all,

I'm fixing a Mac at the moment which is really doing my head in.

It's a PowerPC Powermac G5 1.8GHz machine.

The first problem with it was that the display wasn't coming on and also sometimes the chime neither. I've never heard two chimes - just the one.

There are 4 memory chips - 2 pairs. One pair is Crucial and the other pair looks more generic - 512mb per stick.

I've run the generic looking pair on memtest and one or the other failed so I'm binning that pair.

At this point I thought that that's what was causing the machine to not display at start up but anyway I got into the OS and have had the machine on for about 5-6 hours today just idling away doing nothing and being fine.

Then it just froze, and I tried turning on again and no display.

It really is hit or miss whether it gets in the OS. I've reset the PRAM by pressing the button on the Motherboard and cleaned the computer out as much as I can, it all looks alright.

I've done the obvious things - make sure all cables are firmly in, booting up with hard drives unplugged to see if I even get a display sometimes etc.

Then I got this screen that I haven't seen before in the 3 days I've been trying to fix it...

Can anyone help shed any light as to what the problem might be please?
