Got a free PowerMac G5 from work running 10.5 but its got no installation disks for a clean install.

Any idea if you can request replacement disks? Dont like the idea of using it with its current installation.

I would just call up apple and see what they say. Only way you are going to find out! Otherwise usually the price is pretty low for the upgrade disks

It would be interesting to find out the conclusion to your problem.

I was looking to update my old G4 Mac Mini to Leopard (OS X 10.5) as it's currently on 10.4 but it would appear that the OS install disc costs a bomb!

How unfair is it that they are selling OS X 10.6 for only £25 when an older OS costs over £100! :(

£25 is the upgrade cost to owners who already bought Leopard.

Go to eBay or source the installation disk from Apple if you don't want to go retail.

It is the full edition, but it's not considered enough of an update over Leopard, so Apple didn't charge the usual fee :)

No doubt 10.7 (Lion) will be back to the usual price.

Snow Leopard and/or Lion won't run on the PowerMac G5 - SL and Lion are Intel machines only.

The highest version of OS X a PowerPC based mac can run is 10.5.8 (Leopard), grab an install disk from the bay.

If anyone's got a boxed copy of Leopard hanging around, slap it on ebay. They go for 70-80 quid surprisingly (sorry OP!).

Haven't managed a straight answer from Apple and sounds like I needed to buy a new copy of 10.5 which they don't sell.

Managed to grab a dmg of it through online sources :)
