Hey there,

I recently took in a PowerMac G5 from a friend, it refused to boot. The problem was solved once we put a new HDD in.

I installed Mac OS X 10.5.4 and it was running fine until we tried to install an application.

During the installation we had a kernel panic and promptly turned off the PC.

When we turned it back on the power light came on, it chimed, but no display, no power to the USB.

We've restarted the PRAM, removed it and used the dedicated button on the logic board to 'zap it'.

We can't turn off the computer using the button, we need to pull the cable out of the back in order to do that.

When the cable is inserted, the power light comes on.

Things I have tried.

  • Removed all USB devices and tried it.
  • Tried one stick of RAM.

If anyone has any ideas of what I could do to fix this I would love to hear it as I'm all out of ideas.

Board is probably fried. I think some of the G5 PowerMacs were old enough to be affected by the capacitor issues.
