Ok, this is very odd,

I made a presentation in Ppoint 2010 at home yesterday and saved it as a 97-03 version as my computer at work has the '03 version. I wanted to make a small change afterwards and tried opening it but NO! it's corrupted. No way to recover/repair it. It drove me nuts,

This morning I opened the ppt from my work computer and it opens fine!! Another colleague that has ppoint 2007 opened it just as fine!

What the hell is going on!?? Coulnd't find any reference to MS website and not much of help on the internetz so I've come to the last resort OcUK. Any ideas why this is happening????

Could it have become corrupt on a memory stick? Something else I'd try is to repair the office install on the machine that's having issues opening the document (control panel add remove or programs depending on os and select repair with office selected). I may also be tempted to do the same on your machine with 2010 on In case there's something wrong with the way it saves old formats

Thanks for the advice.

It wasn't corrupted by memory stick as I couldn't open it from my computer (where I originally saved it).

The funny thing is that it opens from my work account after all (with the '03 version) whereas it won't open with the 2010 version that I used to create it in the first place!!

It also opens with the 2007 version, so I saved it as 2007 and now 2010 opens it fine (!!!!!).

I tried repairing the office installation but no change.

It's just very bizarre, can't understand why saving a ppt as 97-'03 version from Ppoint 2010 causes it to get corrupted (haven't tried with different ppt's yet, I'll see if it happens all the time).

Yes i have had numerous problems with power point 2007 and 2010 files opening in 2003. They are known issues and throw up strange error messages.

No solution.

It's really disgraceful that this piece of software malfunctions so much!! And to think that I've paid for it (deep breaths...deep breaths..). Thank god it was a company subsidy so it only cost me around £10 for the whole office, but I am still dissapointed as I cannot trust the 2010 version to create something that might need to be used by 2003 users. Arrrghhh
