Looking at getting a new power supply,

Currently using a cheap 750w'er, going to go xfire & after a bit more (850w~)

Was originaly looking at either Seasonic 860w platinum...

... £30 less, and 1kw, whatcha reckon? obviously a lesser brand with a lesser warranty but hmm !

What is your system spec?

You probably be fine with a 750w from Corsair, XFX or Seasonic.

Could you recommend one, over the other or are they all fairly similar?

Only real difference I can see is the corsair / seasonic cables are better quality =/
 
Using a 3820 with a 7970 atm, both with mild overclocks... looking to get another 7970 in the near future though.

The current PSU is pants - going to use it as a replacement in an older system.
 
All three are quality.

You can't go wrong with either.

So for that reason I'm not going to suggest one and am out :p

Tempted by the XFX, £30 saving + the extra grunt for... bragging rights ;)

One question - Do the powersupplys perform better under less stress?
I.E. a 1Kw psu drawing 500w would be more efficient than a 750w psu drawing 500w, if they had the safe efficiency rating?

System is an i7 3820 with 7970, both mildly overclocked...

Also have a sound card, full custom loop, 5 HDD's + excessive amounts of fans (2 delta's on the top rad) ... with the intention of going crossfire =/
 
What about that new evga power supply that was just released.. EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 G2

The thing about efficiency is not all 1000w power supplies are equal (even if both are 80plus platinum). Some 1000w seasonics give terrible efficiency at low loads whereas others don't. Try find a good review of the exact one you're going to buy.
