Powersupply query - dodgy brand?

My friend has bought a ******** PSU and its pretty cheap, modular and 850w.

It must be garbage right?

He is trying to convince me that they are good, but I'm not having any of it. If OCUK dont sell it, I aint buying it! Right?

I cant link anything but it was an 850w psu from ********, I have never see na review for them and he has been using them for years.

If its not Antec or Corsair I generally dont use them, though am looking for a new PSU for a 970 (my Antec 450w is barely keeping up)

Cheapest decent modular 650w PSU from OCUK guys? I like modular but TBH I use most the cables so not sure if its a problem or not modular now.

Makes it tough to provide info when we can't see who it is lol! erm, generally i go for a decent brand. at the very least read some reviews on various review sites first.

The chances of it being naff are high and you can confirm this usually just by looking at the rated amps on the 12V rail.

If it's from the Hampshire lot, and it's their PowerStation line, then it's a perfectly decent product. About on a par with the cheap Corsair units.

Yeah the Vauxhall Nova Technology PSU's are reasonable...

I have had one of those cheapo power supplied in my pc since about 2009 and it's been fine (touch wood).

But if I was buying now, I would go for something branded just in case.
