Whatever happened to these guy? Why did they stop making gf cards for the PC? Didn't they do the KyroII chips, which we're pretty decent at the time?

They moved into the mobile market which some say is bigger then the PC market which some pretty impressive tech. Things like free FSAA. Think of a Dreamcast in a mobile phone/PDA type chip. PowerVR pretty much beat Nvidia and ATI out who have a tiny market share compared to PowerVR. When I say mobile I exclude laptops and other large device's.

Its more a case of Imgtech sell IP other companies buy that IP then turn it into a product. PowerVR sold the Kyro 2 design to STMciro who made it into a desktop 3dcard. STMicro decided to pull out of the 3Dmarket.

Before we see another desktop card some company needs to buy Imgtech IP. There are some rumours of Intel doing this buy no real evidence. Personally I don’t believe we will see a desktop card anytime next year and very unlikely the year after.

Imgtech do various other things chance’s are if you own a digital radio you have a Imgtech chip inside. They have 80 to 90% of the market.

basically videologic/nec gambled that if they used a gpu that was half as powerful as the ati and nvidia counterparts then it would be able to make double the profit.

next thing you know only ati and nvidia are left in the gpu business :p :p

don't forget NVIDIA have pretty good market in chipsets, and ATI are on the rise in chipset market too, so they don't just make GPUs, they make other things too
