Ok im now officially bemused 

Ive just reset this system up with a 9800 GX2 and 2 x 8800GT's
Now my understanding is with them all using the G92 core they should produce very similar PPD.
However the 2 x 8800GT's seem to be quite abit behind in the PPD stakes compared to the two 9800 GX2 core's.
For instance at present 1 of the 9800 GX2 cores is running a 783 with an approx PPD of 5500.
Both the 8800 GT's are also running 783 WU's and their PPd is 3242 and 3075.
Im not to worried about the difference between the two 8800's as one is clocked lower than the other.
However the faster of the 2 is clocked to the same as the 9800GX2 650/1750/1000.
So as i see it, it should be seeing approximatly the same PPD as the 98800 GX2.
I know the GX2 has 16 more shaders per core than the 8800GT but that should not equate to a PPD drop of over 2000 PPD for the same series of WU.
Or am i being a N00b and missing something plainly obvious
