ppd, what are they? how many should I get?

Hey.

I am new to this F@H stuff. I did it for about 1 week 2 years ago, so installed the same stuff

But got a spare PC this time (not a macbook that takes off when you run it).

Iv installed the cores and fahmon, iv got a q6600 and running 4 x Fahcore for 64bit, and fah mon. it says im getting 1.382k total ppd (all 4 added?), what are PPDs?

Is this low? I saw some ppl here talking 2k+ PPD's ?

Is it the standard client or the SMP client console version?

With 1.3K PPD he will be running 4 standard clients.

Step 1: Nuke the clients you have installed.

Step 2: Follow my guide here: http://smp.aeternum.co.uk/windows.xhtml

PPD = Points Per Day.

The SMP client should be giving you around 2K PPD on a Q6600 at stock.

4 of the standard console version, is the SMP version better? Thought that running 4 would use all my cores? or mb better to go 3?

aha at Sirius B, i did actaully try n install the SMP client, kept getting Error Starting Core, and it kept redownloading? know what that error could be from?

If it's quicker, I should change I guess?

The SMP client is designed to use four cores and will give you up to 2500PPD on a stock Q6600.

The startup error is probably because you didn't run install.bat first. RTFM!

If you get that error then you probably didn't run the install.bat file. Read the guide carefully.

yeah install.bat fails.

mm looking into it now... sucks! hopefully is this .net, it failed to installed, asummed it came with my OS.

.NET 2 doesn't come pre-installed with Windows. Have to do it yourself.

You also need to make sure that the account you are running from has Admin AND has a password.

Are you running vista or xp btw? As getting proper admin rights in vista is a bit of an effort.

I guess I should run it along each instance of the console version until their work units each complete? Or reckon I could hackily add/process the work units into the SMP?

The SMP units are completely differnet to those given to the normal clients and cannot be transferred. The best thing for the science would be just to let the others finish by running the clients with the -oneunit flag. Then you can go over to SMP properly.
