Not sure if nayone can help, but thought i would ask. What is the worst that could happen in GD.....:p

Am taking lessons for my PPL and am at a stage now where i need to get a medical done so i can go solo (awaiting frapping gags)

Am currently serving in the RN and so dont have a GP to go to to get my medical done. Has anyone had experience of this, or are CAA / flying instructors, and do they know if I can use the Navy Doc's to sign off on the CAA medical?

Thanks in advance

In Ireland we have AMEs (Authorised Medical Examiners) who are approved by the IAA (Irish CAA). I think it's the same in the UK. You can only use a GP if it's for the NPPL I think. Would need someone with knowledge of the British system to clarify though.

You'll have to find one(or get told where one is near by the school) that is certified basically, because they will send in all the information after your medical. I don't think any GP can do it, they will generally be GPs with an AME, only 3 here.

Pretty simple stuff, Eye test/ECG/blood test/hearing/urine test. Class 2 Medical I think.

A regular GP does all of our CAA level medicals here

edit: they must be registered to do it then

CAA website has it saying that you need to go to an AME to get this done (Cat 2 medical for JAR/PPL), but was hoping that I oculd have had it done by a doc on work as wouldnt have to fork out the couple of hundred quid to get the medical done.

You need an AME, you can't use a normal GP. As said its a class 2 medical you'll need. Ask at your flying school.

If you were getting a Class 1 you'd need to go to Gatwick

Oh and good luck with your first solo. Try and get the PPL confuser for your GS exams. I think i have my one some where

If you're in the RN, I strongly suspect that there will be RN doctors able to do the medical but you may have to ask as RN pilots will have to have them on a regular basis, quite possibly even whilst on deployment.

Good luck with the flying :)
