Hi guys,

Just a quick question, Just bought a PS5 for my son and he asked if it would connect to my PG278Q Asus rog monitor which uses DP. Now I know getting a HDMI to DP adaptor could he an option, however I am aware that PS5 needs HDMI 2.0 /2.1 or such, and the monitor I think is 1.4. Is there a way to get a this working. Still a great monitor, just such a waste to have to get another. However if that is the only option are there any decent recommendations?

Thanks

There are a few issues with this, and a quick Google/Reddit search suggests no one has made it work:

- PS5 doesn't support 2560x1440 as a resolution so it would never drive the monitor at the correct resolution. I don't know if the monitor can scale 4k down to QHD.

- PS5 can drive high refresh rate but I doubt any HDMI to DP converter will preserve this, so you'd likely end up at 60 or even 30Hz.

The actual HDMI and DP protocol can be converted from DP source to HDMI sink, but not the other way around without an active converter. These converters aren't cheap, or the cheap ones don't work/don't work well. So you'd want to find a review of one that's absolutely confirmed to work with PS5.

It may not be worth the effort for all this, versus finding a decent budget monitor.

Also with noting that DisplayPort and HDMI are different standards so DP 1.4 is not the equivalent to HDMI 1.4. Actually DP 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 were roughly equivalent, or at least were the top standard at the same time for several years. I think DP1.2 and HDMI 1.4 were about the same as well. 2.0 introduced 4k60.

Hi mate, yeah I thought as much. I guess we are looking for a monitor for ps5 Only options then now. So we could get the most out of the ps5 would be what is required.

Thanks a lot I appreciate it.
