Hi folks,

I get a call from a 'withheld number' or 'unknown number' every single night pretty much, usually around 1230-1am.

Is there anything I can do to stop it happening its starting to wind me up, been going on for the last couple of months now.
It's usually just 1 single call, if I answer, they hang up without saying anything.

Once it happened, I got about 4 in a row, but on the 3rd they forgot to withhold the number as a number came up, so ive stored it in my phone under 'have no idea' lol, so it could be them, but that number they never answer...

Anything I can do?

Yep your gettin took for a mug mate, probably some "pal" who really isn't your pal and is just a ****. Call the number, see who answers, probably his mum or somet, pretend your doing a promotion or somet, will post free gift, ask for the address, go round and sort it.

Serious answer would be to log each time the number phones with time and dates like a diary then contact the police, giving them a copy of "diary" and finally let them do the leg work.

or post it on here so we can all spam it :p

seriously, try the idea posted above.

Do you always answer the phone, if you do stop. just leave it as whoever it is will get bored.

I've only answered it about twice out of about 100 calls lol

Someone really immature I guess, luckily I stay up late anyway, and my phone is on silent, but the vibrate from it has woken me up sometimes.

I dont get what the kick would be from doin it to be honest, i'd see the funny side a couple of times, but its got silly now.

Vodafone said they cant block individual numbers :(

Would they be able to trace the number then? Even though its withheld?
the police have the power to or if you contact your phone provider they will have the power to block it as well.

vodaphone probably can just cant be bothered. also speaking to the standard support person might not get it done. if iwas you id collect times and dates of when it happens. send it to the police. they should sort it out , either by getting the number and going to the house (if its housephone). Or they can just get vodaphone to block it.

Sounds too regular to be a person, that one-off number you've noted may be a coincidence.

If it's a land-line that you are receiving these calls on then your telephone service provider may be running line tests a lil' bit too strong (causing your phone to ring).

You could probably call a faults number to find out.

You have got it lucky mate, I get phone calls during the day and the night with different people phoning me up saying that a male(which they believe is me) left a message on their answering machine telling them to call me back via my home number. I've tried explaining that during the day I'm in 6th form but they still insist that it was me. I reckon its probs my cousin he's slightly crazy and always tries to get attention..... :(

Although the number is witheld to your phone, your service provider can track the cli (number) from the switch, it is only witheld at the final point of destination (normally the cabinet).

Dunno quite what you mean there, but with a landline, two instances of the number are sent, one which never gets hidden, the other, which is the one you receive, is the one that gets hidden. And there are ways of getting the other, but I dunno how to do that with a mobile.
