Pre-built £800-900

Looking to buy a pre-built system (don't have time to build one or deal with any possible build problems). Will be paired up with samsung 22inch 226BW. Pretty much only going to be used for gaming, iplayer, movies and uni work. Looking for something I won't have to upgrade for 2 or so years. What do people think? Base unit only.

Budget can't really go above £800-900. Would hapilly spend less.

Guess there's always one off systems if anything interesting crops up. Would have considered that 8800GTX system if it was in stock lol

maybe something like that, decent gfx card. would maybe prefer a e8 series duo over the q6600 for current games but will be decent and as more games favour quads the q6600 performance on some future games might be better, or you could call the number listed and see if you can get overclockers to put an e8400 in there instead for a similar price

Are you SURE you can't build it yourself? You get about 30% more for your money.

I'd want one of the Q8xxx/Q9xxx and a 260 for that kind of money. You should be able to find one if you look hard enough.

To be honest I see that 30% as payment for the 1 year collect and return warranty. I'm not lucky with technology at the moment. Will carry on looking. Would be nice to see an e8XXX system with a gtx260. Never know maybe OcUK will present some systems with the new AMD tri-cores

doesnt the radeon 4870 in that link perform similar to the 260? and ocuk provide a number so you can discuss specs to maybe replace the q6600 with an e8400 asthey are similar prices i believe

edit ok read some benchmarks and looks like the gtx 260 core 216 comes out a tad better most of the time

They're practically identical for the most part - one edges ahead in most games, but neither is consistently better.

I wasn't particularly meaning the 260 - a 4870 will fit the bill too. But a Q6600 seems a waste. Should get a 45nm quad for that kinda cash.

You can do it... have a poke through a PC magazine. I spotted one for £900 with a monitor: just ring their sales and ask for a quote without it.

I may well do that. Just trying to find a processor that may fit the bill and not break the bank. Alternatively can always go for a ~£600 system and save money
