Hi All,

new to gaming and wont be gaming daily so want some advice. Should I build myself or by a OCUK prebuilt machine? How much should I spend? I believe a GTX 2070 is a good mid range graphics card.

Any advice be appreciated

Depends what resolution and what games you want to play, a 2070 may well be overkill and will eat up your budget... Give us some more info about what your wanting to achieve and we'll happily help you out :)

I want to play 1440p and play games like star citizen, mmo's and other games. I want to play at highest setting i can but without spending thousands as I know you can spend unlimited amounts of money on builds.

Well, Star Citizen will be capable to giving good workout for very high end CPUs...

Without SMT's extra threads majority of 12 cores would be fully occupied.
So can't exactly say what is required when it is finally released.
Though anything below 6 cores/12 threads will be no doubt bad.

And graphics card situation is historically bad for more expensive ones with fast dropping performance per price and even worser future proofness per price.
GPU of next Xbox could well challenge even the most ludicrously overpriced graphics cards.
Courtesy of Nvidia's even greater than Intel's greed, performance per price has been going worser and worser.
Hopefully next-gen cards and consoles start changing that in fall.
Anyway current cards are going to be bad at retaining value and likely totally obsolete by the time Start Citizen will be released.
