This is my first post so please be kind.....not sure what is the best way ahead for me as I have built from scratch before but not overclocked
I am looking to spend around £1100 in the next couple of days on a new system and the basic specs I would like are:
Processor: i7 core 930
Motherboard....Your choice as not sure
Memory: 4 or 6gb Ram
hdd:500GB hdd (have already got network 1TB hdd)
Graphics: 5750 - 5850 (depends on how much left for the card)
DVD RW
Case....like mid towers....Coolermaster CM-690 Dominator Case or Antec 300 Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case
Decent PSU for the rig
Monitor 23-24" have seen the new LG LED monitor any thoughts or something else

This will be mainly for the usual gaming....browsering OCUK and general emails and I dont need OS (have WIN 7 64 bit)...need it too last a few years

So Pre-built and if so which one....
Build myself what is the components you would recommend

Big Thanks to everyone reading/replying to this post

The processor is a beast for clocking, not sure about the motherboard as I've never clocked an i7.
Get some decent speed memory as well, 1600 MHz should do you fine I believe, somebody will have to confirm this. (Again, never clocked an i7)

You also need a CPU cooler. I only know about watercooling though, so unless you want to go down that route somebody else will have to help yet again.

Sorry for this but not sure how to post my cart list on this post so....

Intel Core i7 930 2.80GHz @ £229.99
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard @ £158.99 (any better choices???)
Patriot Viper 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 @ £129.98
Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB SATA-II 32MB Cache @ £48.98
LiteOn IHAS524-32 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter with LabelTag @ £20.99
Coolermaster CM-690 Dominator Case @£59.98
OCZ StealthXStream 700w Silent Power Supply @ £62.99

(happy with onboard sound as using headphones)
Need advice on these....
Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 5850 "Dirt2 Edition" 1024MB @ £220.99
or this on crossfire
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5750 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card @ £119.99 x2 = £239.98

LG E2350V 23" Widescreen LED Monitor @£182.99

£1143 roughly before delivery anyone have a better solution or just go for Titan Viper pre-built.....need advice can you come up with a better spec'd PC for less cash

I have come here because you have the knowledge

Rock solid and exact same price as Titan Viper, except that you're missing a CPU cooler still. ;)

Get the HD5850 instead of the crossfire, less power usage and more reliable performance, plus easier to watercool / crossfire later on.

I like your spec too.

Get the MKII version of your case, its really nice, but does cost more.

If you want it easy go for the pre-built with the antec 300 and 5850 and it will come in just under your budget before shipping fees and the cost of your monitor....

and it looks like a really nice build - future proof and if you get the 5850 you can always crossfire it a year or two down the line to give you that extra boost when lots more dx11 games start hitting the market.

If you did build your own system it would only be same/similar spec but different manufactures.

Epyon - have you got your monitor yet as I am still eyeing either the 23" LG or the 24" BENQ Eco (which is slightly cheaper)....can you let me know and if possible post a review on the monitor

I'd go for the Fractal Design Define R2 case.

Its a smallish tower case, with huge noise dampening + up to 7 fans. Seems to be very good value, and the reviews I've seen also show great sturdiness of the case, and great design + cable management.

I hate my case, and thats why I'm going to Fractal ;)

nice choice but wouldnt the op been better off with a i5 750 as he said he wants it for gameing and browsing the net

Yes have to agree as that is what I have purchased tonight but with the 5850 card....just need confirm the best monitor to go this card....Benq 24" Eco or the New LG 23" LED Monitor....or a wildcard???? but has to be in the same price range

Good call on the pre-build

Your Easter Hol is shaping up nicely :) what case did you end up getting just out of interest?

antec 300, as I like a slightly smaller case and not too much over the top....easter is indeed looking good so may need a new chair as I will be sitting in front of my new beast....soon

I just bought 2 R2's and coming from an 8 year old Cheiftec Dragon the R2 is revelatory.

Cable management options are great, the grommets are a bit flimsy tho and I had to remove 2 of them to fit a Corsair H-50 but on balance ok.

One criticism is the grille/vent on the back of the case should be removable or at least low profile rounded metal.

I'm considering getting the dremmel to it to improve airflow.

I'm told the smell of bitumen will fade with time. I hope so, 2 R2's in one room is a bit minging :(
