Hello Afternoon

I am a long term end user of pc's, but really don't have the time or knowledge to know what to look for that will meet my needs. I currently have a 3year old pre built tower I brought on here for £400 so you get an idea how out of date and behind I am, for example When I edit and render hd footage from my ps3 at the moment I can not do anything else on the PC this is driving me mad, and I want to move into recording some pc games too.

So in a nutshell I'll explain what I'm after and what the system needs to be able to do:

I just need the tower.

My Budget is pretty flexible of the top of my head around 1k, but like I said I'm flexible.

Needs to play MMos (mainly wow) and games such as Diablo3, SC3, LoL at maximum graphic settings at very steady high FPS whilst recording for 1080p Quality, and streaming footage in HD also. This needs to be everything from a 25man raid with everything turned to maximum to a 2v2 arena, needs to cope with it all without hesitation as the quality of the recorded/streamed footage is paramount.

The unit needs to be able to edit and render video in good time as I will be needing to put out a lot of content quickly at times, and at times ideally whist gaming, recording is taking place at the same time. Not really sure if this is going to inflate my costs but please suggest as I will take a look, I really have no idea what current technology within a reasonable budget is capable of.

Also I will need the storage space for hours and hours of high quality footage, that I can work through and edit at later dates if needed.

So I know that games I'm playing aren't pushing the limit of current technology, but I don't what to pay for stuff I don't need but at the same time id like to do all my gaming/recording/editing on one rig and maybe at the same time.

Thanks in advance

You would need to look in to getting a PVR. They will intercept the video stream going to your screen and record it without affecting game play + fps.

Even the highest end rigs struggle to record their own game play without expensive dedicated hardware like a capture card, and even then they reply on shared resources from the PC.

Hi

Thanks for the quick reply, I use a elgato PVR for my ps3 games.

For PC games can you use PVR for these too?

I always thought I would use fraps or something? but yes I read this has a huge impact on framerates, and puts a massive strain on the system as you mentioned.

Doesn't the new GTX Cards have functionality in the driver/hardware architecture to capture gameplay footage without a hit on performance?

Googled, ShadowPlay!

Not sure how good it is though...

The interwebs said:
What is ShadowPlay?

ShadowPlay is a new feature in GeForce Experience that lets you capture high quality in-game footage with minimal performance impact. It has two modes: manual mode and shadow mode. Manual mode lets you toggle recording like a video recorder. Shadow Mode lets you save up to the last 20 minutes of footage that happened on screen.

What GPUs support ShadowPlay?

Shadowplay uses the hardware H.264 encoder built into Kepler GPUs. A GeForce GTX 650 or higher GPU is required.

What games do ShadowPlay support?

ShadowPlay supports all DirectX based games.

What's the performance impact of ShadowPlay?

In most games, you shouldn't see a noticeable performance difference with Shadowplay, 5% is typical, 10% in the most demanding cases.
In SLI mode, the performance impact is up to 20%.

Is ShadowPlay supported with Nvidia Surround?

ShadowPlay is currently not supported in NVIDIA Surround mode.

What resolution does ShadowPlay support?

ShadowPlay outputs at 1920 x 1080 resolution. Gameplay at higher or lower resolutions are scaled to 1080p. If the gameplay aspect ratio is different, black bars are added to preserve the original aspect ratio of the captured footage.

Go avermedia capture card along with a nice Haswell rig and you will be sitting pretty for gaming whilst recording / streaming to Twitch.tv

Thank you, putting both into google now :)

Also, can I ask why "Haswell" and when you say "nice" how nice 1.5k plus or will something around 1k do?

Thanks again

I'm pretty much set on buying this, however I have just one question, I rang Oclockers regarding spare dvi express slots and am told there will be 2. I just want the check there will be enough room to fit a avermedia capture card, and the remaining slots wont be obstructed by the GPU or anything as I have no idea how big it is or how it will all sit internally.

Sorry for the newbie questions and thanks in advance.
