Pre Built Systems from Overclockers, Temps look all wrong to me

Hi All,

I'm testing out my new pre-built system from Overclockers, spec is

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...3350 2.66GHz @ 3.30GHz+ Quad Core DDR2 System

One of the problems I've got with it is that it should have come pre-overclocked to 3.3, but the systems is posting at default for the chip of 2.66.

I've sent a web note to O/C Tech support about that.

But prior to that I thought I'd check out the temperatures of the CPU as it's running currently so I could compare when O/C provide me with the overclocking information.

But was stunned to see the following temperatures being reported. I don't know a lot about temps, but looking through the forum I think I should be getting temps a lot lower then this below.

First screen is no load high temps

The second is under 100% load from Prime and extremely high temps.

from my basic knowledge that looks way way to high.

I've had a look inside the case (P900) and I don't think the Tuniq Tower is sitting correctly, it seems to be pulling itself down by it's own weight and possibly away from the chip.

Can anybody help me and tell me if I'm right and these temps are way wrong for what I should be expecting?

Cheers

Taff

Not going to be much better but for measuring the 45nm CPU's temperature use a program called "real temp". As it'll show a lower temperature due to the TjMax being 95, not 100.

Just a thought, but as you mention the Tuniq Tower looks to be sagging, place the case on its side. This will place the Tuniq's weight directly over the CPU, and then measure the temperature.

Cheers for the post back guys

Ok, laid the unit on the side, but no difference, had a look at the cooler and the screws weren't tight so tightened them, but again no difference.

Temperature in the BIOS for the CPU is moving between 46 - 49c

I'm tempted to take the heatsink off and see if they've put any thermal paste in the chip.

Cheers for you help so far, if anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know, but otherwise I'm going to be in the phone to Overclockers tomorrow morning.

Cheers

If there was no TIM on there your PC would shut down after a few seconds, it could be that it was disturbed in transit, or that there's a poor contact for some reason.

Please send me your order number, contact in my profile. :)

wow, yerr there is really something wrong with those temps. For your CPU's sake i hope that somethings wrong with the sensors

It's a possibility - if it is actually reaching 95'c+ it will shutdown due to thermal protection after a short while, get in touch and we'll sort this out for you. :)
