Pre-E3 Bioshock Interview, preview and screens 6 pages!!!!!

thanks for the link, been keeping an eye on it for a while now.

i noticed this caption below a pic,

Irrational has built a system of intelligent AI with complex relationships with other AI in the game. This Aggressor scours the city for its next meal.

now i'm sure i heard a lot about oblivions AI doing something similar before release, didn't exactly turn out how we all hoped... lol. fingers crossed Irrational do a better job.

From reading the article it seems that they spent a lot of time on the 'AI ecology' as they put it before they were happy with it, it seems to be a selling point they are really pushing.

But yeah, plenty of scope for error.

As long as it follows some of the style and has a great atmosphere like SS2, it's potentially a brilliant game. Will be keeping my eye on this, as I'm really looking forward to it.

AI is a wierd thing with games, I've never really been truly impressed by the AI of creatures in games. Probably the only thing that impressed me was the HL1 soldiers, but nothing has really got me thinking "you clever boy" in regards to an enemy coming and outsmarting me as such.

Just one slight AI commendation in CoD2. An enemy soldier made some sound in the bushes, so I threw a grande, the guy's body flew up and presumably he was dead. So went there to investigate the area, I heard further noises in the near by rooms, I went in with my Thompson, no one was there, hang on, I look behind me and four Germans are waiting for me :p

IIRC a lot of the soldiers behaviour in HL1 was scripted, rather than using a complex AI.

I know the vast majority of stuff is scripted, but there is the odd thing that isn't such as how they throw grenades etc, that impressed me.

Any idea what engine this game is using ? The shadows look very unique...
They do mention working with Valve - is that just deployment (Steam) or engine based or something I missed ?

I bought the latest PC Zone for it's article on BioShock and I read that it uses a heavily modified Unreal Engine 3

Must say it's sounding fantastic :)

Having loved both previous System Shock games I really hope they pull this one off, if they manage to capture some of the atmosphere from the last 2 SS games then they are onto a winner. Hope they ditch that weapon degradation system though :(

HL marines could not even move and fire at the same time :).
Do real marines often run and fire at the same time? Maybe they do but I can't imagine real soldiers running backwards everywhere randomly firing their gun.
