A friend is looking for a new laptop and has found a few laptops that come with Windows 7 Home Premium installed. In particular he's looking at some samsung laptops that have 4gb ram, but according to samsung, all their laptops come installed with Windows 7 32bit unless stated otherwise.

I'm not entirely clear how the whole 32bit/64bit thing works with Win 7, but I'm pretty sure when I installed Win 7 on my system, it automatically installed the 64bit version as my system was 64bit capable.

Would it be possible to change to 64bit on these laptops or is it stuck at 32bit? (if that makes any sense)

tbh i think the mobo's won't be compatible. intead of the standard 32 bit buses they would need 64 bit busses which they wouldn't build unless they where going to use it. doubt you will notice that much different on a laptop though...

i dont think you know what your on about

if the laptop has a 64bit cpu then it will run win 7 64bit
thats all thats needed

titaniumx3
if there new laptops then the cpu should be a 64bit cpu, most if not all are these days, so yes he should be able to run win 7 64bit
if your not sure , tell use what cpu it is and we can check.

the reason they sell them with 32bit is just so they dont get you contacting them all the time saying the software i have installed doesnt work with 64bit etc
so they play it safe and give you win 7 32 bit its less trouble for them
