hi guys,

i have a q6600, asus maximus formula and 1x4gb pc8500 on there way to me...

definately want to overclock the cpu on air...

before i recieve it can anyone advise me what i should get in terms of oc'ing software AND also tell me where to start??

Just some hints and tips especially to those who have overclocked these or similar components??? sure the readme files at top of forum are great but your comments would enable me to just go straight in and to do what is required to try and obtain a steady overclock...

your comments would be appreciated...

thanks in advance...

p.s. still seeking a bang for buck air cooler, either the Xigamtek or True...decisions decisions...for a lian li pc7 case...any ideas?

thanks for that...

i should have been more clear, am certainly going to use the bios but was seeking software such as prime and OCCT for testing the OC etc just wanted to be sure what to get before hand so I am ready to go...its been 4 years since my previous overclock....

isnt the Ocz Vendetta 2 better and cheaper just like the Xigamtek compared to the TRUE?? sure the TRUE was grand upon release but now has been overtaken by the others??? and the others are more quiet and provide better temps...

will let you know as soon as I am ready to clock this beauty...just need to order the cpu cooler by today so eveything arrives together...

also with the TRUE, vendetta 2 or Xigamtek fit inside a lian li pc 7 case??

cheers guys...

if i went TRUE black as it dont come with fans....which ones would you recommend I get and how many??

whats it to be the TRUE with xilence fans or the Xigamtek theres over £30 saving to be made with the latter and as I have read AND have seen benchmarks showing it is better....

can anyone who has one of each confirm??

am ready.....

here are the details for the cpu:-

what core voltage should I not exceed when overclocking the cpu??

mobo:- asus maximus formula
ram: 2x 2gb pc8000 gskill
gpu - nvidia 7900gtx
TRUE with xilence and 1 addiitonal xilence in lian li pc7 case...

thanks for all help I receive in advance...

Having read the sticky above I will start on the CPU by increasing FSB and then will up core voltage as and when it fails I will test it for 30mins on prime95 small FFT test...please clarify what vcore I should not exceed to the point it will doo damage??

also when running prime95 for 30mins do i just open it once or 4 times??

thanks guys...

ALSO:-

my bios = asus bios version 0408 date: 07/10/08

There is a header in the bios called "extreme tweaker" and there are options such as AI Overclocking, OC from CPU level up, CPU ratio setting...

These are all set to auto, what should they be set to? What do I use as a CPU ratio?

Is there a guide for my components and bios which I can follow and set to manual and know what to select? then can begin to overclock

Desperately need your help guys, please advise...

Cheers

here are my results...

does this mean its stable? as I recieved no errors after priming for 34mins?

CPU 1, 3 and 5 got to test 3 but cpu 2 was still on test 1 - is this a potential flaw? does anyone know what this means? Please help

34 mins prime95 FFT result - my first go at it

are those tests in speedfan a bit on the high side?

all comments would be appreciated..

EDIT:CPU 1, 3 and 5 got to test 3 but cpu 2 was still on test 1 - is this a potential flaw? does anyone know what this means? Please help - or will I only find out after priming for longer?

thanks for that...

as this was my first test and I am using the stick above I thought I would find out if its temporarily stable for 30mins before increasing the FSB to find the maximum FSB...

once I discover the max FSB I would prime for 8hrs for confirmation...

I have just increased the FSB with prime again and this time take a screenie of temps under load and ensure round off checking is enabled :)

thanks setter will report back in 30 mins :) wish me luck...

What can I change on my bios to try and have a better chance of acquiring 3.8ghz?

Please help guys..

Thanks

are my temps to extreme??

what should I not look to exceed?

also why does CPUZ fluctate from showing 3780 and 2560 as my core speed, it also flucutates the multi from x6 to x9??

i have upped the cpu voltage from 1.45 to 1.5 and am testing again...

I have a TRUE with xilence

I will disable c1e/eist in the bios...

Is there anything in the bios I have posted you can see that needs tweaking?

thanks for your advice..

hey guys...

here are my results after priming for over 10hrs

my results

So I am successfully at 3.6ghz does anyone want to help me try get it to 3.8ghz??

currently at 3.6ghz with

FSB - 400
multi - x9
cpu voltage - 1.45v

I have tried:-
420fsb
multi - x9
cpu voltage - 1.525v

but it failed...

I need to tweak the bios and don't know exactly what to tweak to get it there?? All advise would be appreciated...

Thanks
