A general question. If i pre-order a game, am i correct that up until the actual release date that i wont get charged?

Depends of where you order from but most stores dont charge you until dispatch.

So if i was to pre-order a Wii, would most places notify me if was going to be getting one before the release day?

Yes, and if you were to pre-order now, the response from most places would be no, if you're lucky you may get one before x-mas. Your best bet is to go to shops that haven't bothered with pre-orders.

i can think of one that charges in advance just so you are aware.
