Hi, recently purchased this bundle

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-003-OB&groupid=43&catid=339&subcat=1333

All appears well with the system, but whenever I load up CPU-Z, or Easytune6 I am getting strange readings regarding the speed. New to overclocking so don't have any real experiece, hence deciding on a pre overclocked bundle.

It appears that the 4Ghz is reliant on a bus speed of 191 and a 21x multiplier. I get this reading in both programs on occassion, but it changes rapidly and seems to throttle itself down to a 12x multiplier when not under load giving a speed of 2.2 Ghz. Ridiculously simple and probably stupid question, but is this the norm?

That would seem to make sense, but again having no experience of this I am unsure as to whether this is a problem with the overclock or if everything is working as it should.

Much appreciated.

You will have speed step and other power saving functions turned on. I tend to have them on mine because, like you say, when I need the power for gaming or whatever, it automatically shoots up to the overclocked speed. But when doing simple tasks such as browsing the internet, word processing, its at a lower voltage and lower clock speed meaning it uses a lot less power. Just saving a few pennies when the bills come through :)

You can turn these off in the BIOS, I think its EIST (Enhanced Intel Speedstep Technology) and C1E (Enhanced Halt State) that you need to disable. Should then stay at the maximum clock all the time :)

Makes sense. Thanks guys. Think I will leave the BIOS as it is as there would be no real reason to have it running at the overclocked speed when not required.
