Pre-owned Wii U consoles can access former owner's downloads - report

It depends if you can get access to their account and card details. If i had bought a few games on a Wii U and then i sold it, i wouldn't be upset that other people could download my old games for free. But if they could access my details i wouldn't be happy.

It reminds me of the PS3, if you signed into another persons account, you could view their downloads and re-download anything you wanted on your PS3, which was good to share with your friends.

But i hope the do make the security really tight on it.

As said if all they can get is the games you have downloaded then its probably a good thing, you can sell the machine on including the games you have bought on the store and recoup some of that money.

Not at all really, once that account was removed the content doesnt work whereas this issue it doesnt matter if the consoles been completely wiped...

Ahh, I wasn't aware of that. I only shared with one friends and my brother, I never removed their account.

Fair enough though. Just reminded me of ways to get games through downloads without buying them, I wasn't trying to compare the two.

Ah I wasnt trying to catch you out, just ones either through neglect by the original owner leaving their PSN account active or with their permission as in your case; while this completely isnt either.

Quite amazing to think this loophole wasnt checked especially how the downloaded game license is designed to lock to the console rather than the user account. On top of that the original story seems to imply theres no global Nintendo policy in place to move content from one console to another if yours breaks

Same with the original Wii - any VC or Wiiware titles were locked to the console. Nintendo UK CS would transfer your content if your machine became faulty but would not transfer content if you simply bought a new Wii (i.e. a new Black Wii to replace the original white launch machine). And it's the same story with DSi/3DS content - locked to the machine. Although the 3DS includes a transfer tool on it (something I've noted form my recent 3DS XL purchase).

What I assume might be different here is this 'loophole' to access content even where the original purchase account has been removed.

So whilst Nintendo haven't moved on in this regard it seems to be an element that's been missed in these news reports.
