Pre Play puts me off games

SWTOR - I would probably like it but the fact that it is not even out yet and people have been playing it a week puts me right off. I want to be able to start a game on release day and ride on a crest of discovery not start on the actual release day to be behind. It is part of the interest for me, to be one of the 1st to find something out. I buy a shed load of games and am not about to start pre-ordering everything just in case there is pre play. Because of this my interest in SWTOR has dropped and I doubt I will even get it.

IT is not just MMO pre play. BF3 annoyed me, I played it on release and people had already been playing for a week via Korean VPN.

Does this annoy anyone else? Or am I all alone?

I can understand what the OP means though, but can see if from the developers side as well.

You don't want thousands of people all in the same area at the same time as it will be madness, so having a few more experienced people in the game will be beneficial.

However, it is nice to know everyone is starting out on the same level, however with mmo's it purely comes down to time put in so even if you start at the same time, you may find yourself behind others anyway within a week.

I like early starts - I've been lucky enough to get in a few, others I've had to wait until the official launch.
I don't see how you get behind - 50% (at least) of SWTOR players will all be starting on Tuesday, it's the minority who get in early.

Plus, play the game right and there will always be people at or around your level to play along with.

Don't get me wrong I understand why EA have done it with SWTOR, it makes sense trying to spread the load (I have 6 years wow under my belt so know what server strain can do), But I have gone from being very excited to MEH, whats the point. I tend to be one of those players that plays silly hours and gets ahead of the game.

I can see how it would be annoying, at least with a MMO. I personally quite like the first part of a MMO where everyone is just starting, too. I don't care much about getting ahead of the curve though.

Other games though, I don't really care about it. Honestly, I prefer waiting for games until they're stable, optimised and a better price.

But with SWTOR you didnt need to preorder, you simply needed to have applied for beta during the year or two before it launched. I was in beta, but have not purchased the game.

I do see the point - BF3 quite a few players seemed to know the maps and had worked out advance controls on flying things before release and made it a bit more difficult to play against. It does ilicit that MWAAAAH UNFAIR feeling.
