Pre Purchasing Games

That is true for the most part. But, do you never make any exceptions? Do you never fancy playing a game as soon as it is out?

In all fairness it's maybe because I'm older (37 this month). I'm sure younger me would have struggled not buying games I really wanted ASAP. I have so many games to play that I'm never really in a rush, plus I refuse to play RRP for games, I rarely spend more than £10 on a single game :)

Younger you certainly got lured into preordering Destiny 2 :D , on the plus side though 37 is young still compared to me so at least you have decades more gaming to come yet and of that I'm envious !

You can't get a refund from CDKeys if you have redeemed or played the game though.

You haven't had your drink yet have you Kelt :p

I never said you could. I said as long as you don't redeem the key then you can. That means one can look at reviews and general reception to see if it is a buggy mess or not etc or get a refund.

Tbh, probably wasn't aware at the time of the refund policies/process. So almost a case of I've bought it, it's ****, now I'm stuck with it.

Obviously my own fault there, but it's certainly made me a lot more weary of pre-ordering anything even if you can cancel. But it's probably more the pricing now - as mentioned earlier I'm keen to play DI2, but basing the experience on the first two Dead Island games, I just don't feel the game would be worth the current £55. I might be completely wrong here and it could be 2-3 times the content that the earlier games have.

£55 is too much in my opinion. I tend to pre-order at the £30-35 region.

Like I did it with STALKER 2 for like £28 I think :D

I don't accept that getting the game cheaper is supporting the Devs; it makes no sense. The Devs are offering a small discount for pre-orders in order to sell the product prior to scrutiny, because when those negative reviews drop the chances of making sales drops, too.

There is literally no reason to offer pre order price reductions other than to cash grab by front running the review process, and Devs like that won't be getting my support.

Horses for courses I suppose dirky :D

I have done that a lot and worked through my backlog over the years. I am now at a point I am even replaying older games while waiting for new ones to drop in price/beta tested. But there will always be exceptions for me :)

Once a Customer is "invested" they will defend that decision to death and blindly ignore all the flaws.

look at star citizen and imagine no one ever spent money on it

Star Citizen, something to look forward to in retirement, for your kids assuming they can inherit a parents account

Redfalls biggest problem was actually releasing as a game, should have sold more pixels then launched an alpha test

I'd wager that a lot of people just couldn't wait anyway even if they have to wait until release until pressing the buy button.

Yes, some people just can't wait to "grab" (LMAO) games, I don't think it matters to them if they're any good, as log as they get the 5 second dopamine hit and the quick forum flex about how they "grabbed" something on pre-order that's what counts.

Literally a pointless habit and does nothing but fuel the current ridiculously awful state of the industry. I don't know who keeps doing it but they need to stop.

I do it now and then. But I gave my reasons and they work for me.

I have both STALKER 2 and Street Fighter 6 on pre order. One was for around £28 and the other £36. As long as they don't get terrible reviews or release broken I will redeem the keys.

Why not just wait until they're released and buy them? I don't get it.

I do but are the savings really that much compared to the negative effect that pre-ordering is having on day 1 releases? Surely it's not worth it?

You should have just said that then. Yeah, money is money. Fiver here fiver there adds up. Let’s see when STALKER 2 is out how much people will pay for it. Chances are it won’t be £28.

End of the day if the game is not to the standard I want I get a refund. Win win for me, so why not?

I've already posted earlier in the thread which titles I preorder and why those ones, so I wont repeat myself on that (feel free to scroll and take a look if curious) but why I preorder those particular examples is because I want to, thats the bottom line I guess, whether I pay £50 for Civilization 7 before its released or £50 for the next Anno game before its released, or whether I pay the £50 for Civ 7 or the new Anno on the day its released, its still £50. So financially makes no difference to me so I might as well do it early and then its done and dusted. Its not the only thing I do that way of course, I do all things that way generally. When I book a hotel for example, I could pay for it upon arrival but instead I pay for it in advance so that its all done and dusted , same with cinema trips, could pay when I arrive but instead I pay in advance. I like to get things done and out of the way, I'm a why put off til tomorrow what you can do today kind of guy :)

But in this example prepaying a hotel would mean you arrive and there's stains on your pillow. The product is not the same whether you prepay or not.
I dont care, as I said if I preorder Civ 7 it costs me £50, if I wait til day of release and buy it, it still costs me £50. I prefer on the titles that I do preorder to do it in advance and then its done and dusted. I do a lot of research into the games that I buy, watch a lot of streamers playing it before I purchase. I can think of barely any titles that I have decided to preorder that I've been disappointed with and the very very few that I have I've simply refunded. Most games I buy at release but theres probably half a dozen or so a year that I preorder (as per the criteria in my earlier post), works well for me

Per-ordering has made gaming objectively worse and yet some will go through any amount of mental gymnastics to defend it, and their purchases, I mean look at SC, basically a cult at this point, 11 years on they're still having login issues, but that's fine...

:D
