EG the new COD4 trailer. This really annoys me. What is the point? IMO trailers that show no gameplay footage are worthless. Seems to be increasingly common these days.

It automatically makes me think they have something to hide - like those Harry Potter game ads on TV, where they just show a load of rendered custscenes with 'not actual ingame footage' in tiny letters at the bottom of the screen...

Its a bi-product of the increasignly huge demand for the best graphics, gameplay be damned, let all gamers rise in rebellion for more darwinia type games, dated graphics but gameplay coming out of its ears.

I totally agree with you, but, for some reason (and im not holding out on the idea) it could be rendered ingame, if the fluid/realistic like animation you see for the AI looks that good, it should be an awesome singleplayer game?

Some shots at least it could look ingame.

Time will tell ;D

Killzone 2 and Final Fantasy XIII also comes to mind. Those are console games anyway ><

I thought the Final Fantasy XIII (E3 video) was a mix of both Real Time and pre-rendered stuff. At one point you see a set of menus appear just like a battle scene.

Square Enix reps have told IGN that other than a few sequences, the majority of the demo is indeed real-time.

It does suck but some types of games have poor graphics, for example Lineage2 is an MMO, a ingame video is going to look a bit average. But the cut scenes they make when a new chronicle come out looks sweet. It is the same for other MMOs, like the WoW intro.

Games such as Harry Potter etc are soled on about 5 different consoles, quite often being very different on each. Nintendo DS, PS2, Xbox 360 etc are all going to be different engines/graphics at least and the DS version will probably have different gameplay.

But I agree they should make it clear and maybe atleats how some ingame footage. but if people are stupid who can blame them for trying...

The Harry Potter game got into trouble for not stating that it was not in game graphics. It was classed as misleading people especially kids as that was who the game was aimed at. If the game is on multiple platforms surely it would be best to advertise the one that looks the best but just state what platform it is from.

my god i hate it when they do that, absolutely hate it. Like the op said its like they have something to hide and almost always is.

The other month me brother and dad saw lost planet advert on tv and all it was was pre-rendered rubbish and dey wer like wow dat looks amazing, n im sitting der thinking ***, it looks crap as that not the game, thats just like watching a film.

He bought it and turns out didn't like it that much :)
