Pre Season Friendly Thread 18/19

Yes it’s about fitness, but it’s also good to get a bit of winning momentum going into the the season.

In 2014 we beat LA Galaxy, Roma, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Valencia in pre-season, then lost to Swansea on the opening day of the league. Quickly followed by a loss to MK Dons in the league cup. Pre-season is meaningless.

Had a good pre-season so far, plenty of goals which is always promising. Lots going on away from the pitch though. Hard to get excited for a new season when so much is up in the air.

Salah's 5 minutes into his pre-season - scored with his 2nd touch, had a header cleared off the line and just hit the bar.

edit: Liverpool 2-1 Man City FT

I know it's just pre-season and they have more to play for but City's kids were really impressive in the first half and we were quite lucky to come in at 0-0. They faded in the 2nd half and when Salah came on they couldn't cope with him, Mane and Solanke but they've got some handy players there. Curtis Jones really looks at home in the first team for us - he's got bags of ability, physically he's a lot more prepared for senior football than most 17 year olds but it's his composure that really impresses me. He looks like he's been playing at this level for years.

Not going to mention that Salah was offside for his goal Baz? Cleared off the line is also a little exaggerated. Shame on you ;)

That's your opinion, the lino clearly disagreed :p

And yea, off the line wasn't quite right but it was easier to type that on my phone at 2.30am than 'a goal bound effort blocked 4 yards off the line'. It was going in either way and Salah looked really sharp on his return.

How did Foden play?

He done ok but I wouldn't say he stood out over and above any of the other City players. It was very much a collective performance from City's youngsters in the first half - they played exactly how you'd expect a Pep team to play.

Cheers, it'll be interesting to see if he starts getting some more PL game time this season. Obviously a lot of hype around him, he looks like a real prospect from what i've seen.

Definitely going to have to keep an eye on you in future Baz :p

"Salah with a hat trick. Well, he scored 2, OK 1 but he came close twice and set up one"

1-0 down at half time against AM, totally against the run of play, but let down again by poor defending. We won’t do anything while those CB’s are starting.

Who started out of interest? I wish i knew when these games were on, off work today so would've watched.
Just go to https://www.live-footballontv.com/

It gives you a huge list of all games on UKTV channels a few weeks in advance. We’re on again at the same time Saturday against PSG.

I can’t really remember exactly who started, it was a mish mash. Match report will tell you all you need to know https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44967121

Great equaliser from the young kid Smith-Rowe in the second half. Glad he didn’t go to Barca when they were after him. Went to pens and our pens were poor beyond belief. Worst penalties I’ve ever seen. Missed 4 out of 5 ffs.

Eerily like the third goal Sanchez scored past DDG a couple of years back in the 3-0 win at the Emirates.

That commentator got so many names wrong, it made him look a bit senile. Kept calling the kid Ernie, his names Emile.
