This game is apparantly very difficult to get hold of :o, looks fun though!

The Precursors is a video game from Kiev-based developer Deep Shadows, who also developed the game Boiling Point: Road to Hell and its spiritual sequel White Gold: War in Paradise. It is set in a futuristic sci-fi environment where many political factions are engaged in an intergalactic war. The game allows the player to explore a multitude of planets, travel through outer space to complete missions, obtain information, and buy weapons and supplies in a free-roaming environment. The game is described as a "mix of RPG, FPS, and space simulation

Looks good.

I still can't believe that, 17 years on since Elite 2, I've still yet to see any game that does a fully dynamic switch between space and the planetary surface.

There was that tech demo of an engine doing the rounds a few months back, but I've not seen it fully implemented...

Really like the concept but one word of warning, Boiling Point (another fairly ambitious game, kinda like Just Cause but with RPG elements) was notoriously buggy.

If it gets a proper UK release I'll definitely be checking it out
edit: news about the English release here: http://www.gamershell.com/companies/game_factory_interactive_ltd/804184.html

Oooh, is this by the people who did Boiling Point? I'd heard that game was incredibly buggy, but in my experience the bugs were pretty minor compared to the furore over them, and the game played pretty well. It was a good execution of its ambitious scope all in all, imho.

If this is similarly conceived and executed as well I'll be losing myself in it for some time, I imagine...

I didnt realise it was released. Last i heard it was still being made. Same goes for White Gold which i dont know if its out but might be fun as long as its not as buggy as BPRTH.

This any good?. It looks quite interesting but I've got my reservations about it because of the steaming turd that Boiling Point turned out to be. :p

Thread resurrection!

Picked this up for a fiver recently in a Gamersgate sale, and it's surprisingly good. Had to patch, unnoficial patch, find original Russian sound files, patch them, and then overwrite with an english voiceover patch, but it's finally working ok.

It's a weird game - quirky controls, insanely ambitious amount of content, and it almost pulls it off. Remarkably bug free by the devs previous standards, looks gorgeous, and has that wonderful randomness to it that most AAA titles lack - everything's not scripted to hell and back.

My only real gripe so far is the terrible translation. You get the meaning well enough, but it's like they've just fed it through bablefish. Which they probably did. It's a bit of an immersion breaker when such detail has gone into everything else.

It's also not an easy game - even on the first planet wandering out into the desert on foot will almost certainly get you killed, and even in a buggy there are animals that can overturn it if they catch you. This isn't a bad thing though :D It also has a full faction system, so there's nothing to stop you ruining your game if you accidently hit a town guard during a fight where some raiders follow you right into town and start shooting (actually happened to me at one point, luckily the quicksave rotates through 3 slots). You can shoot anyone, the game doesn't protect against stupidity.

Very much worth a look if you see it cheap, if :

you're prepared to do a bit of work to get it working properly
you don't mind rough edges and rougher translation
you have the patience to work out the game's deep but sometimes obsure systems

Edit : RPS have done a Wot I Think :
