As per the title, not sure what to do. Got the chance of a second hand (couple of month old) ROG Swift for £500. Or do I stick to my original intention of the Dell U2715H IPS monitor (only 60Hz) which is £430 brand new. I play a lot of Arma 3 it seems, as well as stuff like Total War, DayZ (not so much at the minute - still broken :p) Will I benefit from the ROG Swift? Will I notice a worse picture quality on its TN panel? Or is it worth a go?

If the panel was £500 new, I wouldn't be questioning it. I think its the fact its second hand. Also was bought originally from a place that rhymes with Scam. Not sure what there CS team would be like should any problems arise?

Urgggggh don't know what to do! Helpppppp.

Like, are the Swifts due an imminent price drop for a new one anyways with that Acer monitor due to be released soon?

Personally i would say no to the swift, i've seen it in action and its not worth the price or the headaches. Wait for the Ips Gsync monitors if it g-sync your after at that size.

As for the Dell, well is it what you want ? if it is then get it , the Dell and the swift are aimed at very different markets.

Thanks, can you elaborate on the 'headaches' of the Swift?

The Dell is, sort of. It looks beautiful and generally gets good reviews for picture quality. If it had G-sync it would be perfect.

Just wondering, if going forward in time on a gaming rig - I should equip myself with more than 60Hz and G-sync. Not interested in that Acer IPS G-sync model at all, looks cheap and nasty but the price says otherwise and horrid customer support apparently.

A++++++++ mate ASUS had my moniter replaced in 3 days with them dropping off the new one and picking up the old one.

if you're gaming then the ROG Swift PG278Q has obvious advantages. Better response times, higher refresh rate, blur reduction mode, G-sync support. I assume you're an NVIDIA user by the way? if not then there are probably better options as you will miss some of the main features of the ROG Swift if you use AMD or a non G-sync card.

Hi yeah I have a GTX 780. All I use my pc for is gaming to be honest. Everything else such as Uni work and browsing etc gets done on the MacBook.

Thanks for the recommendation, I've asked the guy if he will take anything less. Don't wanna completely skint myself until payday ha.

Badass, any comments on the Dell as a gaming monitor also? Obviously Im not a hardcore FPS gamer or anything.

Dell U2715H owner here, I can emphatically say: "it's awesome".

I play a fair amount of games, in particular BF4 and I noticed little to no difference coming from a 1ms 1080p gaming screen. Was probably too busy looking at the gorgeous colour depth and crisp image. :)

Nothing that I've noticed, certainly nothing that impacts play.

Weirdly I found it to be better in normal mode, rather than "fast". I think it overcompensates (overshoot?), and produces a weird effect. Either way, normal mode is more than sufficient for FPS gaming for me. :)

Additionally the thin bezel, easy to use controls and plethora of digital inputs are nice cake icing. Proud parent pic:

it's not a bad option for an IPS screen, response times are a little slower than one would maybe hope at 9.9ms G2G average. the best 60Hz IPS screens can reach down to about 8.5ms G2G without introducing overshoot in the best cases. it's not far behind though of course. lag is also nice and low

it's just lacking the higher refresh rate than the ROG Swift can offer though which really does make a difference in gaming. also the blur reduction mode (ULMB) can really help reduce percieved motion blur, and G-sync is obviously a bonus if youre an NVIDIA user and have a suitable GFX card. i still think thats a better option given your uses personally
