I plan to buy an 8800 GTS sometime soon (can't afford a GTX) but I'm sure that they are due for a price drop within the next few months. I was wondering if anybody has any idea of when they will start to drop in price?

They aren't going drop in price by a huge amount, unless nvidia have announced them. The prices are dropping all the time, but by only a few quid each month. My only guess of a larger price drop will be when they release the next series of cards (9000) around november or so.

Probally when the 9800 series launch (nov) Even then nvidia may just stop production for the 8800series straight away forcing prices up due to stock.

I agree with the above. Since you can now get a 8800 GTS for around £160 -£170 I can't see them dropping by very much until the next card comes out.

Even then the next card my only be the high end card with the cut down ones following later so prices may not drop substantially until around or after christmas.

Depends if you want to wait 3 -4 months. Also you will then be in a dilemma. Do you pay that little bit extra for a 9800 GTS. Might only be an extra £30-£40 and it might only be slightly more than a 8800 GTS now.

That enternal problem of just waiting for the next thing before you upgrade. :D

Tell me about it, drives me nuts, hehe. My current 7900 is faulty, and my real dilemma is can I live 3 - 4 months without playing games...? Bioshock is arriving on my door tomorrow, then of course theres Crysis.......argh, life as a gamer, eh.

Prediction for when the 8800 will go down in price? Gets out crystal ball out ................mmmmmmm......sorry mate its a bit cloudy must be because of the weather. :D

If, as the rumourmill is saying, the 9000 series of cards are going to be DX 10.1 then I do wonder whether Nvidia will keep making the 8800 series cards.

Look at the 7800/7900 series. As soon as they released the 7900, they abandoned production of the 7800 cards. Now that the 8000 series is established, they've ceased making the 7900 cards.

the new nvidia cards are called 9800's? Wouldnt that get confusing :P

9800 GTX and 9800 GTS. Sadly, they decided against 9800 Pro :( :D

You could always get a 8800 GTS 320MB, then sell it a week or two before the 9800 series came out. You might not lose too much on the value of the card. And if you get it second hand anyway (as there are loads about) then you don't get that new->used depreciation.
