Though i would ask, what you all think of the new EFI bios? compared to the text based bios.

I would do a poll and ask, if you prefer the, EFI bios or the standard text based bios. Can't find it though.

I would prefer the standard text based bios. It's simpler to use and less buggy than the EFI versions.

You don't need all that eye candy, just to change some setting in the bios.

Anyway who really wants to play silly games while in the bios.

Without a doubt the new EFI. But more specifically the sexy ASUS EFI on the new Intel boards. Saw the EFI on the MSI boards and it looked a little trashy.

Text based all the way. To hell with the bios being pretty, I don't want it to be pretty. I want it to work well. Any time spent making it pretty would be better spent making it work better.

That said, I have a couple of computers which are entirely text based, so I'm not as much of a whore for graphics as the windows rulez crowd seem to be.

Exactly what I've been saying about the shoddy bios from asus, all style and no substance - even with the latest 1253 so im hearing...

I quite like the new interfaces, the msi looks a clunky compared to the asus but thank christ it actually works

the asus uefi looks awesome, hopefully its possible for manufacturers to modify the design with future bios updates. the msi one doesnt look all that but at least the functionality is there. i dont mind the old text based bios but its about time for a change me thinks.

I am dying to have a play with EFI but I will have to wait until socket 2011 lands because I'm passing on SB...

The new ASRock UEFI is fine. No silly (And frankly, that ASUS UEFI looks silly, even if superficially it looks nice) graphics or pictures, just the info you need, in a presentable fashion, with the added bonus of being able to use your mouse. Simples.

That MSI UEFI looks like something from a Chinese PMP.

also looks like the eye of Optimus Prime behind the options as well...! :D

Is it true UEFI bios enable the pc to have much quicker boot times compared to the old text based bios ?

Well I don't think so. I like to see whats going on but you get nothing with the MSI EFI bios.

You do get a sort of, musical disco everytime you start your computer though. It's annoying.

Glad i'm not the only person not keen on the EFI bios.

I think its brilliant, the Asus one looks pretty and functions just fine, despite what other people will regurgitate from a few unfortunate people's posts.

Being able to use your mouse is a pretty good plus point, and I'm no stranger to text based stuff - I spend large portions of my days staring at a text console :P

I really couldn't care what it looks like, it's not often I need to go in there - the main thing i would want is quicker start up times.

I will say this for text based, when you're fixing a computer with 16 colours and blocky text on screen you appear more smart

I like the Asus UEFI but it must work well for me to want it, I updated my P5Q Deluxe to UEFI BIOS once and it was terrible compared to the standard BIOS and had to go back to the old style to get system stability back, was a beta at time and still is a beta for this board and would hope the new boards don't have the same problems as the beta UEFI I used had. So it must work well before I even consider it but yes like the new modern look, but needs old style functionality and stability before I will use it. I work with a lot of servers and on the server side we have had UEFI for a long time and never experienced such problems.. So strange to see these teething problems with something that is really old tech and been around a good while.

My mouse cursor goes crazy and judders all over the place in the efi bios. I have to use the keyboard. Any suggestions? I would prefer the efi bios if it worked properly for me tbh.

Cant say i find the MSI one clunky at all, iv always found exactly what im after first time, it works well, not too over the top, you dont need fancy looking dials its just nice being able to use the mouse.
