Afternoon,

Looking to ditch the two SLI 7950GT's I have fitted in my OC. Not looking to spend more than £200 as I don't spend a massive amount of time on the PC.

Can anyone recommend me a prefered card?

System is a P5N Deluxe, 3ghz Core 2, and 4gb of RAM.

Thanks

Preferred GFX card - £200?
I would wait for a secondhand 4890/5850 or GTX 260/275 to show up in the MM

(No point paying brandnew retail prices went you can normally pick up the same item secondhand for much less if you wait a week or two ;) )

You can pick up 5850 for around £200 if you look often and hard, failing that it will commonly be £200 in a couple of months or so.

2x5770 can be had for just over £200

The 5850's should be rrp £199 but sadly they are not so the £200 price bracket is difficult at the moment. 2 X 5770 is £240 so too much there, the 4890 is good value at £120 and compete with the 260\275 both of which are more expensive and harder to get. Any of the above would be a big leap from your current setup.

Thanks chaps.

SLI or not does not make a massive difference to me at the moment, a single card will at least be kinder to my PSU and save some space in the case. I think at the moment I'd probably stray toward a single card.

In regards to ATI or Nvidia, I'm not sure sure which is the better at the moment, so I have no preference. The last few cards I have had have been Nvidia, but I used to use ATI before that as they were simply better cards at the time.

A new card would be preferable, that being down to 'accounting' reasons.

Cheers!

Edit - Hmm, £220 for the OCUK GTX 285 looks reasonable. - I see they are pre-order, assume they have all sold out? (Or not arrived yet?)

That OCUK GTX 285 has been showing pre-order for around 2 to 3 months ;)

Same goes for the cheap OcUK Value GeForce GTX 295

The 285s are EOL IIRC so no new stock. What games are you looking at playing?

I'll be using it mostly as a media centre to be honest (It's in a Zalman HTPC case)

Would be looking to play at least some of the most recent titles. (I did buy Arma2 but I know thats a killer on framerate so its been sat installed and unplayed at the moment)

I'd go 5770 over a 260, most benches I've seen they are roughly equal, the 5770 is also cheaper and less of a power hog and DX11 compatible.

...or just wait for a 5850 to hit reasonable prices ;)

New: 5770 and pocket the change.

Second hand: 5850 but it might be a struggle and/or require some patience. 4870X2 is also a valid option, they're well under £200 used now.
