Hi all,

I've had my mums 4th Gen 2.0i prelude sitting under my car port for at least 3 years now, needs repairs to 2 wings and a complete rear drivers side wing panel due to rust. I've had enough of it sitting there and my mum is dragging her feet about doing anything with it.

A family member has a double drive where it can be dumped, so, charged a spare battery, pumped the tyres up and it started first time. Checked oil and water etc, topped up where needed. Then I started to smell petrol.

After having a nose about it appears to be coming from the passenger side just inside of the rear wheel. It's pitch black outside and its so low down its hard to tell but the tank and the object next to it has petrol all over it.

Am I correct in guessing this is the fuel pump? Anyone had issues like this with other cars that have been standing? Best case just tighten bolts? worst case either new pump or just risk the 1/4 mile drive and dump it?

Need to get it gone so I can start on my Corrados :(

Its not mine to scrap. I was offered £800 when it was for sale 3 years ago, checked with my mum as she wanted it sold and she changed her mind. Failed MOT so was put under car port. :( Waste of a nice car tbh.

I sold my Prelude 2.0i last october for £480 and that was after getting the rust sorted, the demand for them isn't there really unless its a vtec.

Loved this car and hope to go back to a 4th gen vtec but there're becoming quite abit rare now. :( In the four years I had mine never had any major issues so I can't help with the leak but try: http://preludeuk.forumup.com/

The fuel pump is just in front of the passenger side bulk head at the top of your engine bay, that may be the source of your leak. :)
TBH the 2.0 is an unloved beast, and if its the condition you describe its pretty much valueless :(

I am not fussed about selling it on, that's my mums problem now, I just want to make it safe drive round and then not have it pee petrol all over my relatives new brick drive. :D

Hmm, I didn't notice anything from the engine bay. I'll have to wait until the weekend for some day light in order to be check it out properly.

If it was up to me I'd just give you this one :D

I must say, the 2.0i hasn't got amazing power and is slower than one of my 1.8 corrados but its a lovely car to drive.

and a complete rear drivers side wing panel due to rust

That panel costs more than the entire car would be worth after you have fixed it, like ppl have said unless its a JDM vtec the isn't really much demand for them, which is great from a buyers pov ofc, I just sold an import (more bhp) 1997 5th gen SiR with a dodgy gearbox for £600 and was surprised to get that, and the gearbox is a cheaper fix than what your looking at.

Check ebay too see if you have any bits that are in demand (working cup holders are gold) and then scrap it and tell you mother to quit whining.

I regret getting rid of my VTEC BB4 import, but it needed £1000 spent on a new rear 1/4 panel and painting then a VIC check and was only going to rust to pieces on my drive.

Wish I kept it but it would have been a financial burden, sold it on Ebay for £600 in the end :(
