Premier Inn Wi-Fi

Yeah they're stupidly expensive. :(

Luckily my phone can be turned into a Wireless router so I just use that with 3G.
This was another idea that crossed my mind - I have an iPhone 4 and have an unlimited web bolt on with o2 - Couldn't I just use Tethering and use the iPhone as my internet point?

No idea about iPhones sorry. I use WMWifiRouter but it's only for Windows mobile phones.

£5/hour!

Man, whenever I go to a hotel abroad (ok mostly around Europe) it's free.

When I've been in the US most places throw it in for free with the room rate - and its usually atleast half a meg.

Hmm just took a quick look at the dongles on OcUK - They have a deal at the moment for 3GB for £33...

Are these dongles reliable? Are they very fast?

Depends entirely on the signal in the area your in and how many other users... generally if you get a good high speed signal then your looking at around 1-4mbit speeds, tho sustained speeds in average areas are more like 600kbit/s with average latency around 80-160ms and spikes to 1-2 seconds so gaming won't be great.

If you get a dongle and know the postcode for the premier inn check out the coverage maps for the appropriate provider - should give you a good idea what kinda speeds to expect.

On my Windows Mobile HTC, it's as simple as plugging the USB cable in and selecting "internet sharing" on the menu which pops up. And you're ready to surf within seconds.

Should be just as simple on the iPhone.

Haha Premier Inn. I stayed in one on business and it was horrible. Despite being the only person in the 'restaurant' they still managed to forget that I'd ordered any food until I reminded them (they admitted they had forgotten).

£5 an hour is insane.

My hotel (serviced appartment) in korea just changed its system, I get 10meg free and 100meg for about £20 a week extra.

Only probelm is no wireless in my room and since they changed the system im having issues with my Xbox and the NAT.

I used to get over 50meg free (speedtest results) but everyone was raping the connection so they changed the rules, I got a call asking me if i might have a virus on my computer when i was pulling down HDTV.

Travel Inns are nice, much better than travelodges as most of the time they are attached to a fairly decent pub.
Did two different ones last week, yes £5 an hour so out came my Voda 3G dongle.
