beIN Media Group secures Premier League extension https://share.google/Y07JryVQlyKLec0Ab

This, to me, shows yet again that the Premier League have little to no interest in starting up their own subscription service as many have predicted for a few years now. If they did, I'd have thought the middle East, or potentially Asia would be the places to start it, but this deal shows me anyway they're not interested and are happy to keep signing deals with broadcasters.

It’s strange because i’m sure everyone would pay £10-15 a month for the games. Rather than having to pay >x5 that to sky for half their channels that no one watches.
The setup costs would be astronomical, potentially a billion pounds or more. Sure the long term returns would be good in five, ten or twenty years time, but I'm not sure the PL or English FA have the funds, or the stomach for that.

They do have an interest, proven by the fact that they've included an option in their deal in Singapore to launch their own service there.

As long as traditional broadcasters keep paying them more and more then they're not going to be in a rush to do anything however they've made in crystal clear that they're ready to launch their own service and it's only a matter of time before they do. When it happens it will be in somewhere like Singapore or another region where they don't have a particularly big deal (not MENA) and it will grow from there. Sadly the UK is probably the last place we'll see it.

Once the PL has a monopoly on it it won't be 10 or 15 quid for long.

It's on Optus sport here, on an app. Every game is live, obviously including the 3pm Saturdays. Just pick which one you want in the menu. Games are on demand too and you can browse the app with spoiler protection on so can watch a game from the start if you've missed the first few minutes or watch it in it's entirety a few hours or days later. Every game is catalogued and you have the option to watch the full game, 45 min highlights or 5 minute highlights. My Dad was here over Christmas and was on it most of each day. When you watch Sky in the UK you realise how much bloat there is in their coverage and how many people they employ to rabbit on to you about how amazing the next upcoming game is going to be. Even though the current one you are watching, which they said the same about, is dull.

I feel if the Premier League really wanted to they could just simply buy and rebrand this service.
