So I just noticed that Vista Home Premium blocks incoming Remote Desktop requests - you cannot Remote Desktop in to it.

What's that all about? Hardly an 'Ultimate' class feature these days, is it?

Wouldn't be a very good feature if it accepted random incoming remote desktop requests, would it?

No, I mean even if you try to connect using the correct authentication, it is refused, because the feature is disabled in the OS.

The clue is in the title: Home. Just like XP Home, it lacks the business features. If you want RDP you need Business (no MC) or Ultimate. Not really a major biggy. Alternatively you can use the 'cracked' dlls like I am. However, if I were to buy Vista again I'd probably get Business

Why do we need 4 versions of the same operating system anyway?

What happened to the good old days where you bought an OS, installed it, and it was exactly the same wherever you used it? :(

How on earth did you not know the differences between Home Premium and Ultimate? They were publicised enough!

That's the thing, Remote Desktop is not a "business" feature in this day and age. Anyone with multiple computers may well have a use for it at home.

But only a small number of more advanced Home users might use such a feature, you might say. Hence the thread title.

Because the differentiation of the mass of versions was a farce that I didn't care for, so I trusted their naming scheme.

Remote desktop isn't really a business feature is it? I use it all the time on xp for helping out family and friends.

It is a business feature. Use remote assitance, that's the 'Home' feature for what you're using it for, and that's not disabled afaik.
