Hoping the weather will be good for this next weekend

It's a new thing for me this and I finally have all the kit needed

Would be taking

Tripod
Monopod - just in case I have to use this
60D
120-300mm sigma f2.8 (I have nothing as long and less heavy)
Half Gimbal head
SanDisk Extreme pro 95MB/s sd card

Apart from maybe buying a 1.4tc this week for the job does anyone have any tips/hints on practice or equipment?
Particularly anything about technique in regards to heavy lens

Due to the short notice I doubt I'll get any prior practice!

Apparently this is the two planes and may never happen again

I'd definitely use the monopod if you're using that lens and want some nice shots with a bit of prop blur. It'll be very difficult to hold that lens steady enough for 1/125 - 1/250th exposures.

Pace yourself with the shooting if you've only got the 1 SD card, don't take too many shots of stuff that's rather distant because it's quite easy to do (or at least it is for me lol).

I've got a couple. My main sd card (32gb extreme non pro) fell apart at weekend. Just literally fell apart

Yeah it has to be on the Monopod or tripod for anything motion blur.
I've only tried a couple of times to get anything motion blur and failed.
I think I had trouble following the target properly.

Hopefully the day is bright enough to get some good high speed shots of (especially with the 2.8) but I really could do with a 400 prime + tc.
But.. These lenses are of course extremely expensive
Saw a nice canon 500mm 4.5L no IS for 1.8k..lol

1/60..ugh that is asking a lot!

would be nice to see someone else there!

Im probably going to start out getting some high speed stills. then try slower speeds..i just know they will be a disaster!
im also going to see if i can get the 1.4x tc

edit.
ive just seen the ticket prices, i dont think i can justify it for 2 people!
Also, i didnt quite look into the scale of this, looks like if you dont get there early you dont get much.
I certainly wont be able to.

Tbh as long as you're in the airshow somewhere you'd probably be able to get decent shots :) Obviously being at the front is probably better but I bet you can still enjoy it.

I don't think the gf can tolerate the amount of time we would need to be there for.
I am coming back from a wedding on Sunday morning so i can't even go on my own.

Last thing I want is to be getting nagged or have a grumpy gf after shelling out 60 quid
If I could get there on my own I would happily stay all day for half the cost

I think she wants to go but to see it but no way would she want to wait hours in advance

I'm tempted to go on the Saturday since there's a few extra aircraft doing that day but still not sure. It'll depend on the weather too I guess and whether there's any tickets left lol

For me has to be Sunday due to Wedding.. Boo
I'm trying to work out if it is even worth being outside the event and trying. I think that is my only option

have definitely decided I'll make do with not going to the event but try my luck at outside the perimeter

Thus I have put the money saved from tickets into a 1.4x sigma tc

Its a shame you are not going to pay to go into the show and contribute towards the running of such events yet want to go and take shots of the very attractions they are bringing for everyone to see

I'd be happy to pay if I was on my own on a picture day
I can't be for this trip
That means I can't get there early,
I can't just sit there in photography mode
I'm paying 60 for a day that probably won't be fun

I'd even pay 60 for the full day if I could get a good spot and I was on my own/with other photographers

I doubt I will be happy with any of the pics I take. I don't think I'll have the range

If the tc comes in time it'll be
60d (and it's 1.6x crop) + 120-300mm f2.8 sigma + 1.4x tc

It'll be first time I have used a camera with that effective length
Apart from loss of stops (shouldn't be a problem) I have no idea how much loss in sharpness I will encounter being at end of lens and a tc on it

I really feel I could do with a 400mm prime.. Anything more is too costly
This I would use for nature and astro. The weight savings would be lovely too

I think I'd seen that the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight were there both days so I was doing to see the Saturday display to get the Vulcan, Tornado and Lancasters... But then I read closer and the memorial flight doesn't include the Lancasters on the Saturday :( So if I go then I guess it'll have to be Sunday.

Now I'm even more peed off
Could have met up with you.

Damn wedding and gf

my 16GB 90MBps extreme pro got here just in time.
I also have a 16GB 30MBps as a backup which i will have to use
my 32GB MBps recently broke, that was my all purpose card!

I would love to have sen the vulcan, next year i will go on my own, or perhaps can organise a OCUK photo meet!

I was using the 1.4x but I was usually at 1/800sec
Some were on and some weren't on a tripod

I expect that out of a couple of hundred I might keep 2 or three. And these aren't really that Good either

I never really get that sharp pictures from this lens in general. Might be one of the reasons I don't take it out much. I will have to upload a few. But yeah pretty disappointed overall

I can't micro adjust on my 60D

I hadn't to leave before the red arrows unfortunately

I dunno what to think about this lens tbh
My little 100mm macro L is absolutely perfect. It's harder to get a bad shot than good.
I never use it on a tripod and I'd say keepers rate is more than expected.

It's hard to know if I'm at fault or the lens. But in general I don't think I've really liked any of its pictures that I can recall.
