Preparing for Windows 7

My machine currently runs XP but I'd like to take a look at Windows 7.

Do you guys recommend running windows 7 in a virtual machine or running it as a second os?

If as a second os what steps do you recommend taking before installing? Just backups or anything else?

Thanks

Acronis True Image.

Make an image of your C:\ drive, save it somewhere on another drive (internal or external).

Pop in Windows 7 7100RC and format the C:\. Install onto the drive.

If you dont like it, reinstall Acronis and recover from saved image, or create a bootable recovery CD from within the program and recovery from there.

As well as using acronis do a raw backup of your files. If you acronis image corrupts you'll lose everything.

You can "dual boot" Windows 7 with XP in which would be your best bet I feel for testing. either that or run it as a virtual machine with vmware server free or virtual box.
