I have an IC-7 Max 3 at the moment, and just wondered how much I can overclock the processor by with just using the stock cooler? I know I only have to increase the FSB (mobo allows everything to be increased) but I have not increased the CPU voltage yet.

Whats the safest options for me?

Hi
I have a P4 3.0E and it will clock to 4.0GHz on water @ 40deg full load, on air with stock cooler it will run at 3.6GHz with a few case fans as well but as soon as it gets to 60deg it will BSOD, both on stock volts but mem on a divider.
With your 3.2 you should get 3.6-3.8ish on air just have plenty of airflow through the case. Heat in the case will be the biggest limit.
Hope that will help

Edit
Try with stock volts and if you do increase it little at a time.

You can basically run to whatevers stable with the stock cooler.
That processor will stand way more volts than the stock cooler can deal with and as soon as it gets too warm you'll get Prime 95 errors.
I'd go 1.4v and around 220 FSB if your mem will do 220 for a decent reliable setup.

I was thinking about raising it to 1.4v as it sounds like what a lot of people have done. I have heard a few crazy people overclocking there FSB from the stock 200 to 250 and beyond. If they can get away with it then great, but surely they must have a special air cooler that they arent telling anyone about. Even the stock cooler only just about fitted. Shame there isnt a "IC-7 Max 3" list of approved CPU coolers

After my water failing on me & costing £300 to buy new parts, im not going back to that so soon again, thats why I want to stick to air from now on. Apparently the stock cooler is rubbish if you overclock at all, so what coolers do people have to seriously overclock it?

What failed on your water? iv'e been using water cooling for over 8 years now either home made or custom and not had any major failures, only 1 leak over the AGP card but it didn't blow, a pump went all rattly an a few fans (but its on 24/7 and fans would have gone anyway)
One of the first sets i bought is still working as we speak cooling a lowly Barton in the cupboard under the stairs.

Haven't you bought a Freezer 4 yet? Honestly - look around the forums and most people are using some variation on the Arctic Cooler theme - be it Freezer 4, Freezer 7, Freezer 7 Pro, Freezer 64 pro. They're cheap, yes, but the work. The Freezer 4 heatsink sits inside the S478 mounting frame and the fan hangs off the side, a long way clear of the motherboard components.

If you buy one and it doesn't work for you, I'll refund your money. I'm that confident.

I can get it overclocked to 3.54, but its extremely hot and when playing NFS: Most wanted it stopped every 5mins or so, and im sure that was because the CPU was too overheated it had to take a breather. Im doubting whether getting this ABIT mobo was a good idea as it severely limits me for installing big heatsinks & fans that I want to
