I feel awful now, I thought I saw you there today but wasn't sure. Now I feel like a right muppet not saying hello. Was your brother there as well?

No, but I did have a chat with a few other tog's, was wearing longish shorts and black polo shirt and a couple of belt lens pouches.

I did keep an eye out for a 1ds, but didn't see any :(

Yeah pretty sure it was you, I was heading back to my car as I was only there for the morning. You were shooting the car by the bridge, I followed you down from the hill. Sorry!

How did you find it? It wasn't as busy as last year, but still plenty for you to get your teeth into?

A great day out as I enjoyed the subject matter, later on the Bugatti spun off the track on the first corner btw, it didn't hit anything, tbh I saw quite a few near misses and I'm surprised there isn't allot more crashes etc.

I was however a bit envious of the 'press' tog's, as they had free reign to find nice angles without a barrier in the way. Might try my luck and show someone at Prescott some of my pictures and see if I can get an orange high vis...

It was also mostly a different way of shooting for the most part. I have never panned anything in my life before today, I even used Liveview in order to lean over the barrier and get a lower or higher camera angle in a few places, and I found I was either shooting at F1.4 if the car was coming strait at me or F16 with a slower shutter if the car was going past.

Edit:
Also, I learnt to use continuous burst sparingly, I now have stacks of images to sort through...

Brilliant stuff Exception, I absolutely love the low angle Lotus shot along with the Veyron.

The ladies dont look too bad either ;):p

Cheers ManCubuS, the ladies actually were quite friendly, one gave me quite allot of camera time (considering there was a crowd with camera's pointed at them), I think they liked that I was also recording the people recording them and probably found it funny...

This one is one of my favourites, it kind of reminds me of the Replays from the original granturismo. I used to play that for hours...

I'm not an expert as it was only my first time at the weekend as well, but I think it depends on what lens your using, and if it has IS or VR etc.

I was mostly between 1/100 and 1/60 @ 35mm F16, and I could only go to 1/60 later in the day, else all my pictures would be too over exposed (as D700 is limited to ISO200 and I didn't have an ND filter).
At those settings my pictures were still a good stop over exposed, but I knew that the D700 is particularly good at recovering highlight detail, so I continued at those settings all the way through except when I was shooting at F1.4...

Lot of lens envy going on too. It's a good job I'm not rich! Some guys with huuuuuge lenses. Love to see what pics they get from those. At one point I was standing next to a guy with a nikon lens that must have been all of 2ft long! of course he may be 'all the gear no idea' :D

Also it's double edged sword taking that kind of gear as it's allot to carry around, and once you get setup in a spot, I doubt you want to move on.
I only had my 35 & 85 on me, but like you said, you can get pretty close to the cars so I could get by with just those two lenses. There were times when I would have liked more reach, but it wasn't that often.
At the other end of the scale, I did see one guy with a very light setup though, he was using a compact with 16x zoom, attached to a monopod...
