Went for an eye test today and need new glasses. No worries. Happy days.

Notice the opticians have Oakley Sunglasses, and they can get me my prescription in the glasses, epic win.

Get told it will cost ... wait for it... TWO HUNDRED POUNDS for the lenses for the Oakleys. Not cool.

This sounds, a lot, to me. I don't have epically fail eyesight (no distance assistance needed on either side, just astigmatism (?) correction. The eyetest sheet for those that understand it says 'Cyl -1.00 in my right with an axis of 171, and Cyl-1.5 in my left with an Axis of 3'

Has anyone else got prescription Oakleys and not had to pay so much?

I want them for driving in the sun, karting, etc etc. I get headaches if I don't wear my glasses, so not bothering when its sunny isn't an option really !

Within 30 seconds of asking Mr Google I've found them for £70 less, so I'm sure with a bit more searching I'll find them cheaper still

Can you not get contact lenses?

I can, and in fact, I am going to get some. However, I don't want to have to take my glasses off, put in contact lenses, put on sunglasses, remember to take contacts out, etc etc every time I decide to nip out in the car if its sunny without planning it first.

I've been told I can now get contact lenses for my prescription (not been able to until recently apparently (? never been offered before so I guess plausible).

I'm going to try some out on Friday this week and see how I get on, but I only envisage using the contact lenses when playing football.

I got some prescription Oakleys last year and have some prescription Ray Bans too. The Oakleys even came with proper Oakley lenses.

I got the Ray Bans here: http://www.sunglasses-shop.co.uk/

and Oakleys here: http://www.2for1glasses.co.uk/sunglasses/

Thanks for the link. I tried 2for1glasses, but I've since found somewhere a bit cheaper (Potentially £180 all in, TBC, e-mail sent for quote).. thats £100 cheaper than in the shop !

We are going to some designer glasses outlet place tomorrow after work. I think I know which main glasses I'll go for (they have the pair I want on a deal where I can get a second pair free, ideal to go in the drawer at work !) so will see how it goes...

That website looks awful. Ask them if they are using official Oakley lenses; they make a big difference versus unofficial because they are so curved.

Also checkout quidco and sign up to the newsletters for 2/4/1 glasses/ sunglasses shop- they are forever sending me discount codes/sales etc... I think you get 10% off your first sunglasses shop order and free delivery which makes it about the same price as that dodgy looking firm :)

I think the idea is to avoid looking like a twonk wearing 2 pairs of glasses. I have to wear glasses and at the age of 34 I only found out when I was 31 so only had glass for a couple of years I dont mean to hijack the thread but an keen to get a new pair of glasses and obviously depending on my percription a pair of sunglasses for the summer. Are there any firms out there that offer some sort of payment scheme for glasses? I wouldnt mind paying like 15 quid a month for a new pair every so often. I get free tests with work through specsavers so have always gone there is there any where better on the high street to go?

Oakleys....pfff.

Double PFFFFFFF for driving with.

Get some proper prescription lenses with a proper polarisation, especially for driving! Maui Jim have excellent lenses that represent their cost for example.

£200 for prescription lenses is a fair whack, I certainly would not be paying that for sub par Oakley stuff.

First Google turned up:

http://www.sunglasses-shop.co.uk/prescriptionsunglasses/maui-jim.aspx

10% offer on first order running also. Gives you an idea of frame + lense cost for something superior in quality. I've owned mine for over 4 years now and do not have a single mark/scratch or blemish on the frame or lenses. VERY high quality. You certainly get what you pay for.
