3rd rock...
So I got my 1GB RAM delivered yesterday (2 X 512MB) and eagerly opened the ol' CPU case to bung it in.

I have never installed RAM before and geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez I was *totally* unprepared for the amount of force needed to slide the things in and for the clips to snap shut

After 5 mins I got cold feet and called tech support, the girl had a good giggle (I was prob the 10,000th noob to call in with "Its not fitting") She composed herself and said "No, you need to press and I mean REALLY press down"

So back I went and at one point was using body-weight and still had a hard time  ...and then...*click*

The sweetest sound I heard lol :)

Now I gots 2GB...woot woot I shall now torture you all with more FS9 screenshots because that game now runs like a bat outta hell :D

wrong forum but hey hoo.

Depends on the Mobo some will gently slide in others need the worlds strongist man. I always find Asus motherboards need a lot of muscle and faith before they go in.

il think youl find there are many more people on 1gb than 2 ;) and yep ive had some major pant browning moments getting ram in although it doesnt compaire to the sort of pressure my freezer puts on the mb i thought i was gonna hear a nice crack before i finally managed to secure it

Did you install modules with motherboard outside case on anti-static mat, this prevents the motherboard from bending on the case mounts, a good idea, because the excessive force on pushing your memory in could damage the PCB, so a flat surface is better...

wrong forum but hey hoo.

Sorry :(

I think Im a bit confused - I assumed the other forums (in this case the Memory forum) were for issues & asking for help & guidance so thats why I didnt post this there

Me bad..wont do it again.

No i didnt removed the MB! I lay it on its side and then just shoved the RAM in lol. I didnt detect any MB flexing, its mounted pretty solid on the 8400...well I hope I didnt bust anything!

On bootup the PC beeped and a fault-light came on (those of you with Dells know their ABCD fault-lights!)...anyways it was just a message saying "Memory has changed , press F2" and after that all was good!

you'll update your sig

Ohhhhhhh yeaa!!!!

I lost it, I have to use loads of twigs from a tree tied together.:(

If you soak the twigs in vinegar you can peel the bark off them and use it as a sort of twine. That tip comes right from the top.
