Basically, I was playing metro 2033 and my pc just suddenly died, the screen went black and there was no signal to it, all the fans and hardrives stayed on but i couldn't kill it from the power switch only way it would turn off was from the mains switch on the power supply. Now it won't post atall, the fans and hdds come on but nothing else happens, ive taken literally everything out including the ram, but it doesn't even complain that there's no ram in no beeps atall, ive tried all the obvious cmos taking the battery out, but i fear that either the cpu or motherboard has given up the ghost, i don't think its the power supply but i'm hopefully getting one to test, has anyone got any ideas? I don't want to be buying new parts without knowing whats definalty given up.

Thanks in Advance

Sounds like PSU or motherboard to be honest. If you can rule one out then it will most likely be the other. Really doubt the CPU has failed as modern CPU's are pretty hardy.

Have you tried clearing the CMOS?

without spare parts It's hard to diagnose when it doesn't post at all.

I agree that it's likely the PSU or motherboard. The motherboard is a decent high end one, so it shouldn't have shoddy caps, making it more likely to be the PSU. But I am of course just guessing.

I had thought the psu could be the problem and hopefully i can get one to test, if it isn't that i'm assuming its pretty certain its going to be the motorboard? I can't afford to be buying one and finding out its not the problem :(
