Right off the bat I'll admit this was a mistake :o - Ive been using my Windows 7 HP on an Admin account. Never had any problems and have done the best I can by using good security software (even dreaded UAC is enabled to the max) and being careful.

However theres something thats escaped my attention these past couple of years (lol) and Ive just noticed it: Right-click on a drive in Windows Explorer and sitting there waiting to trash your disk is the Format option

I know there is no way to prevent this from appearing in an Admin account. And I dont wanna mess about creating a Standard account because Im scared it might cause chaos with installed programs, games etc.

My questions to the W7 gurus on here:

1. Does UAC appear when you Rght-click>Format? I inserted a Flash drive and tried it - and it does not. Naturally Im too chicken to try it on the main HD but wondering if any of you know hee hee.

2. Does anyone know of any 3rd party software that can disable right-click context menu in W7?

3. Just out of curiosity does the Format option NOT appear under a Standard Account?

If you have any ideas do please share. Like I said Ive never had any problems and maintain full backup images of both my HDs using Macrium Reflect but it would be comforting to not see that Format option in the context menu (and to be able to enable/disable it at will)

Thanks :)

Not that I'm about to try it, but I don't think it's quite as simple as just clicking Format and then it erases your data. Certainly won't for your primary HDD anyway, being as it's impossible for Windows to delete itself.

True! I forgot to mention I have 2nd HD with just Microsoft FSX installed on it.

Also you do get a warning so the sequence is:

Rightclick>Format>Press OK>Warning (proceed after this and it gets wasted)

I wish it was like this:

Rightclick>Format>UAC Warning>Press OK>UAC Warning & type Admin password>Format begins.
