I cant see that helping tbh but it wont hurt it.

Im on my 4th 360 2 died within 2 weeks of each other and my last 1 the DVD drive failed within days of getting it

If they want to die they just will, Best thing to do is get a extended warranty

My 360 is on top of a massive rack mountable KMV switch and often has my laptop placed running on top of it.

On the right it is boxed in by my printer and on the left it is boxed in by a speaker

If I close the door and window to my study then the room will become very hot very fast. (2 Pcs running, 1 laptop and a 360)

No problems yet.

I wouldn't bother to be honest, the 360 fails because the motherboard gets hot and twists breaking the poor quality solder joints. The only real fix for this is to pad the motherboard out to stop it twisting.

I speak from experience as a few months ago i got the TROD (three rings of death) and used the eraser method to fix it and it's worked ever since. Although i don't play on it much (sig) my misssus and kids are always on it :)

If its on its side a lot of heat builds up on that side around about the gpu area. When I had mine sat on a little cabinet (at least a foot of air on all sides around it) I could feel the heat on the underside of the top of the cabinet.

I have one of those coolers, the 360 doesnt look bad sat on it as well, adding it seems to have helped the dissipation of the heat that radiates through that side of the 360, but life saver ? I'm hoping I dont have to find out :p

To be honest it's more luck than judgement that it fails. You could stick it in the middle of a wind tunnel blowing ice cold air while praying to the good luck god and it might still go pop. You'd probably get disc read erors instead :) And for what it's worth mine runs coller stood up, don't ask me why, but it refuses to play GOW and grinds loudly to a halt.

What's the 'eraser' method please?

I've only had mine for a few weeks now but no problems so far. They do run pretty hot though, hotter than any other system I've had before.

I've recently purchased a 360.

I really don't want the hassle of the 3rol errors etc.

Its not really that much hassle, just make sure you get one from a local high street retailer and get their extended warranty.

Mine went pop and i just took it in on my lunchbreak and came out with a brand new one as a swop. Didnt lose any gaming time. If you dont have the retailer warranty and have to send it off to MS via post then that IS hassle.

The PS3 runs much hotter but the 360 has a poorly designed heat sink attachment clip.

I just tried the xclamp fix thats doing the rounds and so far so good, no 3 rings of death. The only problem at the moment is the fans are permanently on full blast - god its loud, but me 360 is working
