Preventing Windows meltdown?

I've been having problems with a dodgy power supply for months but, as it's a Shuttle one which is no longer available, I'm trying to sort this out with them. Meanwhile, I've still been using the PC on-and-off for 6 months and by and large it still functions fine despite the fact that the ATX connector has melted

The only problem I tend to have is with hard-drive/registry corruption. Every week it will tell me that "a windows registry file had to be recovered", I'll get 'IRQ less or Equal' & 'Fault in non-paged area' BSODs. But still, it keeps going!

The only problem is, twice in the last few months, it's booted to show the windows/system32/config is missing and I've had to reinstall windows, all the software etc.

I'm just wondering what the best option is until I can get this sorted with Shuttle? Is there a quick/easy backup solution for retaining or preventing? I was thinking maybe ghosting onto another drive (never done this before but have heard a lot about it over the years). If anyone has any better suggestions (other than "get a new PC" which I'm working on) I'd be glad to hear them!
