Hi there

Well in a couple of weeks we shall see the best value X79 (Socket 2011) processor come along. This is the new 3820 processor!

We have a sample from Intel and as per normal regime I've being doing some testing, this image shall speak for itself:-

3820.jpg

At sub £250 this is a great CPU and it gets you the benefits of X79 without having to spend in the region of £400+ for a CPU.

Overclocking is very easy, CPU voltage to 1.375v in BIOS, 125FSB strab, job done. :D

An easy way to hit 4.5ghz, the facility to use the 125mhz strap and go over 5Ghz with some extra voltage and TLC on an X79 base for similar total money to a 2700K, board and RAM

Happy days!

Priming ona simple stealthly dual rad at 55-60Cis also very good too! Certainly impressive for how much its likely to cost ;)

Plus I am sure with the more expensive X79 boards, more is possible too, Intel are claiming their X79 boards boast some very impressive OC results.

P.S. I'm using an Asus X79 Pro.

Image is a bit big mate.
monitor upgrade :D

Any chance you can get some performance results up against a i5 [email protected] also?
it is roughly the same as a 26/700k but with more memory bandwidth and more cache.

the bonus of this cpu is that it allows you access to X79 features like huge memory bandwidth etc without the prohibitive cost of the K/X series cpus.

***** managed 4750mhz so they do look promising however the cost is still quite a bit more than a 2600k setup!

Dammit i want one!

I was about to get a 6 core, then i decided on the 2500k and upgrade to Ivy but this is a much more sensible upgrade path as eventually i could if i wanted go Ivy bridge E with 8 cores :)

Though i really dont know if i should just stay with the 2500k for gaming as what uses will i get from 8 cores? I could just get Haswell I5 as well.

My ram is blue so i cant go Asus X79 as the morons binned PCI slots

So i need a blue themed X79 with a PCI slot! lol

Shame this didn't get released a few months ago as its a really nice chip for the money. But I can't help but think that ivy will be a better investment for the majority of people.

Do these clock as well as 2600K/2700K? or is 4500mhz the limit?

I'd say the range is 4500MHz - 4800MHz, you might get the odd one at 5GHz if your lucky or willing to push some extreme voltages.

Unsure as to what is a safe voltage on these new 2011 chips at present.

Is that because of instability then or because of the locked multiplier/straps etc making over 4500mhz difficult?

Waiting for Ivy

While you're waiting give your signature a trim ;)

You may use a signature (commonly used in email messages) in your posts. You can specify in your profile a signature to use at the bottom of your posts. When you post, there is an option to use your signature. A signature may contain one or more images but they must fit within a box with maximum dimensions of 400 x 75 pixels (width x height) and with a maximum (combined) file size of 20k. Images containing mostly very large words or animated .gifs will not be permitted. You may also add 1 consecutive lines of normal or smaller text directly above or underneath the image with no spaces inbetween image and text. If no images are used then up to 4 consecutive lines of normal or smaller text is permitted. Do not pad out your text lines with blanks lines. A line of text is defined as having a maximum length of 400 pixels. If you want to turn the signature off in the future, you can come back and edit your post. If you have specified a signature in your profile, the box will be automatically ticked for you.

The forum Dons/Admins reserve the right to judge individual signatures, particularly those deemed to contain material of an adult or offensive nature. If the Dons/Admins think the signature is unsuitable for a family orientated forum, then it will be removed. If the user then replaces it without making changes, they will be suspended.
