I was wondering, the current prices of ATI 5970's are currently about 400/500, how much do you think the price of these cards will lower by say, november/december?

I was also wondering about price cuts for I7 processors,

are big price cuts common for cards/processors after they have been on the shelves for 6 months+?

Price cuts to Graphics cards are usually due to competition between Nvidia and ATI, that's why 5xxx series cards prices had remained stagnant for most of the year, only now beginning to drop a little due to Nvidia's recent releases.

i7 prices, at least the lower end prices are unlikely to change that much until Intel bring out new chips or the next evolution. I tracked the prices of the i7 920 chip from around April to September 2009 and it fluctuated by only about £10. It only dropped when the 920s replacement, the 930 came along. If you can still find the 920 processor it's still worth going for.

the only i7's to look at now are the 970 and 980x as they will last well into Q3 2011 when socket 2011 and the sandy bridge 8 cores come out
