originally, i was planning on just waiting to see what ati offers with the new 69xx cards, though i'm tired of being unable to use my system, will a SLI 470 coming in at around 350 quid be better bang for buck than ati's new offerings?

Will be a very nice combo, what ive opted for myself. A single 470 copes well enough but at current prices i couldnt resist another.

"Probably not" is the best answer. 2x 6870s in crossfire give GTX480 SLi a run for around the same price as 470 SLi, but I'd suggest waiting until the 6900s are out.

Go for the 470 sli impressed with mine but I'm going to try the 3d thing so going for the 580s

Sli 470 overclocks very nice to more than 480 sli standard clocks

Sorry Kylew, dont get this. One 6870 is equal to a 470 and therefore behind a 480. CF6870 is equal to sli 470, give or take, so CF6870 give sli 480 a run but sli 470 dont. Phew! No wonder folks get confused.

I would say one 580 however a little more expensive than £350. A single 480 maybe a good option?

Not as powerful but will be less power hungry and less noisy then 2x 470s

470 are quicker than 6870's is most benchmarks, but 6870's do scale slightly better in crossfire. 470's overclock massively (by ~30-35%), but 6870 OC's are limited (10-15%). 6870 require less power but you may as well use onboard graphics if power-saving is a big issue.

For £350 SLI's 470's are the best bang for buck currently available. You can always sell the two Mafia II vouchers for ~£12 each making the total price less than £330. 470 SLI outperforms a single GTX 580 by 20-30% and the 470 has better OC headroom.

580 is the best single card option, and offers SLI upgradability when prices eventually fall.

I agree with this.
